Just picked mine up today. Got tired of waiting for the n91 / 80 and needed the minutes so took the plunge.

It's a very good fone for what its for but coming from an n70 you notice the lack of funtionality / customizability of the symbian os.

The screen is really good and it records the highest quality videos available on a mobile phone. The new series 40 ui is very good as well and can finally compete with the se's (tbh i thinkd the s40 is actually better).

It's mostly got the same funtionality / features as the k750i but somehow it pulls of the trick of seeming a much better and more powerfull phone.

The build quality is ok (not fantastic nor shoddy). I'ts not as solid as the d600 but still feels well made. The pictures are what you'd expect from a 2MP camera (but look really great on the screen).

Its a really good fone but i just can't fall in love with it.....would have loved the n80 but couldn't wait till may.

got it on three from phones4u. They threw in a free 512mb card(which was nice) and a nokia bluetooth headset. It's on the 14 month (early buyout) talk n text 700 (400mins, 250txt, 5mb inclusive downlads and 50 video minutes) for £17.50 for first 6 months....

they are both fantastic handsets, you can't go wrong with either.

the lovely anti aliasing of the 6280's higher resolution screen sways it for me thou

couple of things to know about the 6280 on three:

1. Three removed all the games and put on who want to be a millionaire (50p to play for three days

2. Gprs can't be turned off (lower battery life)

3. There is a "profile bug" on the current firmware i.e. the phone often resets when you try to change profiles.

Thats all i've noticed so far....

This is only on 3 network then?? I didn't realise, bit of a bummer for me as I'm on 02. :(

vodafone have a date of feb 24th so not to long to wait for a better network

i'm sure o2 wont be long either

In your opinion of course...

You havent provided a mass list of phones in your post that beat the D500.

Featureless?? Bluetooth, 1.3mp camera, video recording, infra-red, mp3 player, java games, small, robust. I've had the D500 for over 13 months and nothings gone wrong with it, pretty reliable IMO.

you only have to see the masses of posts on fault d500's to see why i have such an opinion. I'll tell you a quick little story. two friends says "should be get the d500". i say no, they are rubbish. Two friends buy them anyway. They both break. End of story.

featureless? no upgradable memory. that pretty much crosses of mp3 support for you, unless you only intend of storing half an album on there. It's neither s60 nor windows mobile so its lacking in support. 10x the software and games are available on phones with those two O.S's.

robust? hardly. those sliders do like breaking.

I dont need to provide a mass list of phones that beat it, but here's one: the 6630.
s60, upgradable memory, full java and *ahem* ngage support. can run tom tom and a host of other usefull apps that would never run on a d500. fastest cpu in its class, big screen, its 3g and very easy to use. the price? £119.99 on orange PAYG.

That's a d500 beater for you.

James Miller, I think it has a lot more to do with features in relation to size and style. It's all very well and good saying the 6630 has this, that and the other, but it's fairly large and pretty beastly looking. The D500 packs in quite a lot for the size, and is generally considered pretty stylish (it wouldn't be such a best seller if it wasn't).

i never said anything about style. He asked me for an example of a better phone. i gave him one. If the 6630 is too big, how about a c500, c550 or c600 then?

They are much better as well. If somebody wants a stylish phone, then there are plenty on offer that aren't nearly as likely to develope a fault.

You cant discount size and style when looking for a 'better' phone, in my opinion, and im sure many others, a better phone will look better and hopefully be same size or smaller. if size isnt an issue with a 'Mobile' phone then I dont know what is.

Sure now loads of phones are better than the D500. At the time the D500 came out, there wasn't a whole host of phones which really compared with which actualy did have a memory card slot, it was pretty much the best phone out in its size/class.

The D600 is a very good phone, I hate samsung menu's however, but if you get on with them they are great, great camera, mem card slot and nice large screen.
