ok as a lot of people wanted me to sell my X1950 Pro and get the 320MB 8800 instead of going crossfire, i did, and it was the best deal i ever got. i sold my X1950 to my friend for £150 as i have only just bought it and he made the offer, and bought the BFG 8800 GTS OC http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-039-BG

games run twice as good as they did on the X1950 andit looks good in my side panel window. most money ive spent on a graphics card but well worth it.

Welcome to the club, you made the right decision in the end, they are truly amazing cards for the price, the performance boost you get is incredible, and you got a cracking price for your x1950, a GTS for about £40 odd is an absolute bargain. :D

the performance boost is great, but would probably be better if i wasnt still on a single core AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0GHz

Well if youre on AM2 drop in a cheap £65 X2 3800+ :)

I just cancelled my 8800GTS 640MB order as it was taking too long (not from OcUK)

Considering re-ordering but is it worth it from an X1800XT? Might not bother:o

Of course it is, the GTS just totally decimates the x1800, went from an x1800 XT 512mb here, perfomance increase is absolutely staggering, its well over 30fps faster in everything, and thats even with the supersampling on which gives far superior iq, it just whazzes all over the x1800, ATi do not have any cards out that are as fast. :D

Remember when everyone went from their Ti4200's to a 9700pro and everyone was amazed? Well, I wasn't.

Bear in mind I have no interest in 3dmark, lets use Call of Duty 2 as an example. Will it only be a ~30FPS increase?

why not? they were over 100% faster with 4xAA, me and a friend of mine did a large comparison using his ti4400 and my softmodded r9500pro. the 9500 was much faster.

Must have been down to the games I played - MOHAA, COD etc back in the GF4 days. I don't use AA, it's one of those options that doesn't interest me.

people buy 8800's for speed and image quality. if that doesnt interest you then they aren't the cards for you. 8800's can do 16x FSAA for a reason - it looks bloody awesome and they are the only cards that can pull it off. whats the point of getting an expensive card at all if you dont want to get the most out of it?

i love my 8800 GTS, its pokey enough that i can play SupCom with all the details on full tilt and the game just looks swiiiiish. not actualy tried it with anything first person shooty style yet.

so nice to be able to play everything in high detail though.

Yeah me too. Hence I'll be looking for a cheap 8600 GT or GTS when they finally see the light of day.

I think it stems from the fact that I've been gaming since the late 80s; a jaggly line or two just doesn't even register in my brain :p

How can you not use AA? no AA vs 8xAA is night and day...

I've been playing since the C64/NES, and I can tell you now it doesn't stop me using all the eyecandy I can get.

I just don't see why you wouldn't... I mean with todays cards you can run anything with 2xAA and have pretty much zero performance hit...

High end cards can do 4xAA without batting an eyelid, and my 8800 I have 8x permanently set to on and i'm yet to find a game that it doesn't chew through...

Pure madness to run no AA at all.

£150 for ** x1950pro? I wish i had mates as loaded as you? Are you special or something? does the fact you owned it add value to it? They aint even that much new are they??? well done! and welcome to the club :D

I have 2 x 7900GT's in SLI as per sig, OC'd of coarse!
Do you think a single 8800GTX would be better than my SLI setup at present?
I am gaming in BF2142 mostly and running @ 1440 x 900 (19.1" wide screen).
See sig for other specs!

your 2x7900gts should run 2142 fine at that res? is everything on high?
It probably would offer a performance increase, but to be honest, will it have any bennefits?

Well, because graphics don't really mean all that much to me. Frame-rate yes, polygons count, texture quality, AA, no.

Hell, I just played Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 and loved every minute of it.

Personally, I think that if there were as many gameplay innovations as there were new versions of DirectX, gaming would be a whole lot better :) But looking at what's been released recently, mostly it's better graphics, better graphics, better graphics.

It's probably as a reaction to this that I've stopped caring about graphics. But then I'm also hugely cynical at times too :p I'd love to see better AI, better story-telling, better (deeper) gameplay and all that jazz.

And then, just to reaffirm my status as a big hypocrite, I'll be buying a new DX10 card when the mid-range gets released :p So don't take anything I saw too seriously :p
