I'm new to the Pentium scene so I need some advice on what FSB, multiplyer settings I need to use on my new E6600. Does it run @ 667mhz?

Also what memory settings will I have to use, I have Geil Ultra 6400 DDR2.

Sorry for being a noob but I need to get back into the swing of things.

Cheers.

(Nitpick) The Core 2 Duos aren't really "Pentium" processors. Intel sort of abandoned that name a year or so ago.

What motherboard do you have? On a 680i, I run my 6600's FSB at 1300. Your multiplier should stay at 9X (after all, the multiplier is what you pay for in a Conroe processor imo). I leave my memory unlinked at 800mhz.

Hi,

I have a Gigabyte DS3 so it's a Intel 675p chipset. Do I set it @ 266x9 = 2400ghz?

What do you mean you have your FSB @ 1300? It it running @ 325 quad = 1300mhz?

Sorry but I'm a noob with these new `Intel chips'

Cheers.

Stock speed is indeed 266MHz FSB with a 9x multiplier for 2.4GHz.

Since the FSB is quad pumped, 1300/4 = 325 so 325MHz with a 9x multiplier means his CPU is overclocked to 2925MHz.

Hey I am also a noob to the C2D but thinking of getting one soon.

Just wanted to check are all the FSB settings etc generally done in the Bios now? I remember on some old AMD board I hard there were dip switches on the board itself, is that system ever used still?

If not I am guessing the Bios will always default to the correct FSB settings?

Cheers

All is done in the bios now adays you would set it and reboot, if all was ok pc boots up if not a cmos reset is in order, but its very easy now imo.
