PCs I understand, Android I understand, but as of today I have a new beast to learn in the form of iOS on the 5S I have just adopted from a friend. I've rummaged through the settings, put on various apps I know from the world of Android, and flicked through the app store to see what catches my eye,but I was hoping this forum might have some pointers for an Apple noob who needs educating and convincing!

Cheers!

Any pointers on tips tricks, recommended apps, anything that iPhone users might view as making it unique to android, and how to make the most of those features.

There isn't any apps i use that make the Iphone a more usable phone, it is the most straight forward software you can get for a phone.

A few pointers though, go into Settings>General>Background App Refresh and turn it off, this will save your battery and you can hopefully last the day without needing to recharge.

You can't customize the phone at all unless you Jailbreak your iphone, haven't done it in a while so not sure what versions they are JB'ing atm.

Forget the phone and concentrate on content / people you communicate with.

Main concept to grasp is that Apple basically recommends you to forget that there are things calles "files".

Generally "Stuff" or "Content" is within the apps. To access your stuff, you open your appropriate app depending on what content you want to access.

Apps can share content between each other, but from user point of view files are generally hidden, unless apps themselves act as file storage.

I personally wouldn't do this. It removes a massive amount of app functionality.

Double click the home button to find all your running apps, swipe them up the screen to close.

Settings/General/Bold Text makes the text easier to read.

Settings/Sounds to silence all those pings and beeps from email, Facebook, text etc, unless you want them...

Settings/Do Not Disturb to select your 'quiet time' when you don't want it to wake you up!

I've had an iPhone since a 3G, have tried Android and I am going back to an iPhone for my personal as soon as Apple deliver my 6S, it is much easier to make it do what I want it to do than Android in my experience.

Apps that are worth loading: BBC News and Sport apps, Accuweather (most accurate for me) Google maps, and Chrome browser as a change from Safari, though to be honest Safari is as good as anything.

If you're used to Android and like the flexibility it offers then like me you might find iOS quite restrictive.

Can't fault the build quality and for those less tech savvy is very simple to use.

For me, only being able to create folders and not customise the home screens or use widgets makes it feel like a rather old OS, which I guess it is, would be good to see Apple try and make the interface a bit more modern.
