So I just purchased my first Mac the other day. Safe to say I'm abit behind the crowed as for the handy software you can get.

So far I have discovered and installed/purchased:
- BetterTouchTool
- AppZapper
- Cheatsheet
- StayAwake

So guys what am I missing that you would recommend.

I have also seen people with some kind of mail icon (Looks like GMail) in their menu bar. What is this?

Thanks :)

Also there's a Macheist bundle right now that has a few useful apps like Scrivener and Bartender.

Thanks :). Just stumbled upon bartender. Looks good seeing as the menu bar is getting pretty full already especially being a 13" display so will probably be a future purchase ;)

That bundle looks pretty damm good but tbh out of all of the I think I would only end up using bartender and perhaps Evernote would be nice. Might consider it.

Thanks :). I don't tend to torrent much (Use file hosters if I'm downloading anything) but I'm sure it will come in handy for the occasional file that requires it.

I personally use Chrome due to the lack of Add-ons for safari which is annoying as Safari is quite a nice browser. And because I can sync the tabs between all my devices ;)

Always important to make sure you have the latest Flash / Shockwave / Silverlight / Java installed. Also for video VLC / Perian, Flip4Mac if you want to use QuickTime.

I also recently discovered Bartender, cool app.

windows 7
Not sure if sarcastic -.-. But none the less once I got my hard drive caddy and SSD I will be adding a Windows install to bootcamp altough I have been a Windows user since the start and still love my base PC but I have to say so far I really haven't missed it. Especially with the touch gestures with the track pad.

Worth noting that Perian is now unsupported, though should be fine. MPlayerX and VLC are good alternatives, though quite frankly, if you can get the codec support Quicktime Player is the best. That said, VLC/MPlayerX are less hassle. Thinking of ditching MPlayerX for VLC though, as MPlayerX seems to be rather buggy.

Love VLC player. Been using for for since I can remember. Can play anything you throw at it and has been pretty stable for the whole time I have used it. That said I liked the borderless effect Quicktime has on mac. Just a shame about the codecs.
