...any wow, such a difference from onboard sound, seriously surprised, would i actually notice any performance gain by using a sound card? very little to none, i would assume

No not really maybe a few CPU cycles and thats it. On Board sound doe's suck. When I got my Creative XFI I could tell the difference straight away.

Aye the X-Fi's with a good means of listening to your music i.e. speakers/headphones really do beat onboard sound to a pulp.
