Hello everyone, today I finally got a brand new 2500k. Brand new? Well I am not too sure about that. I purchased it from OcUK and went for an OEM processor as I already have Noctua NH-U12P.

The item came in a little box with just the processor inside. However, I noticed that there were very subtle "smudge" marks on the left side of the processor, which looked with thermal paste residue at first but I am not really sure if that's the case. This really got me thinking if this processor had been previously used. Unfortunately my phone's camera is very low res and I can't attach any image, but if I get the chance I will do so.

I would like to know if anyone who had purchased an OEM processor had a similar experience. Do you believe it's a returned piece? Should I be worried?

Thank you for your time! :D

I always buy retail processors.

That at least removes any doubt that someone has tried it out before.

I'm not bothered about the stock cooler but you do get a longer warranty as well.

I think oc check for the best overclockers and put them to one side so they can charge more money for them so yes its possible its been tried before if you can get a good pic we should be able to tell if its been used before.

I have two retail cpus, one had a bit of smudge. The box was sealed though so it coyld have been from the factory. No point in buying oem as the margin is very negligible, anf 1 year againsta a 3 year warranty is what cuts it for me.

I wouldnt worry about it..

If its been used its most likely for testing or it could be someone who has picked it up to dispatch who has dirty hands.

Unless it been under LN2 and had the balls ragged out of it then i wouldnt loose a wink of sleep over it.
