Have been umming and arring over AppleCare for my Macbook Pro - but at 280quid from Apple, it always seemed a bit steep. I know you can get it a bit cheaper at places like Amazon but it still seemed a bit steep.


Just managed to bag it on eBay for £120! Complete bargain! So I'm covered for Accidental damage on the house insurance and mechanical failure through Apple! Rejoice!
 
Ah well - I am not one you student layabout types :p

Us working folk are the ones that have to stump up full whack!
 
Yeah i think its worth paying for the apple care anyways regardless of price - very handy to fall back on if something goes wrong. Lie about student days are well gone. Instead it involves looking at a screen to the early hours every single night for final year project stuff!
 
Its one year and thats not even Apple Care. Every Mac has 90days Applecare and then the rest of the first 12 months is just a standard manufacturers warranty.
 
The student store gave 3 years of warranty as standard. You could pay an additional £60 odd to turn it in to 3 years of "AppleCare", but all that added was tech support by phone. Not worth it!

I've just bought a MacBook Pro myself, so i might think about sourcing a cheap AppleCare Protection Plan :)

I though about gettina AppleCare protection but knowing me i prob sell my MBP after a year anyway to get a new version as that what I am like with gadgets

i looked on the website through the education part and it said £120+ for macbook pro applecare =[

I've managed to get into that habit over the years, i suppose simply because i was working my way up the PC market, with first buying my own computer years ago, then a DIY one, then a Small Form Factor, then a laptop, and ofcourse then realising how good Apple was a couple of years ago and working my way up the scale with a 12" iBook, closely followed by a Mac Mini which has served me well for the last year :)

This MacBook Pro, when it arrives, will be kept for a good few years hopefully :), i'm sure a lot of new technologies will come out in those years like HD-DVD / BluRay, but i really don't think that'll be taking off all that soon to be honest, other than a brighter screen and faster specs i really can't see too much being introduced to the model.

don't be moaning at the students :P Im in my 2nd year, bought a macbook pro and 24" Dell this year! That was after splashing out on my 360 and 32" TV as well, so don't be thinking all students are cheap-asses, i work for my moolar!

It is trust me, when some thing is borderline software hardware they will not deal with it over the phone you have to send it off to have the hardware tested and if it turns out to be software they wont do any thing.
