Hi,

I'm still getting used to Vista LOL. How do I stop the UAC thing popping up everytime I run certain programs? I'm guessing there is some sort of allow list?

Thanks

As far as I know there’s no way to stop the messages from showing for one individual program, but you can turn it off altogether by going to: Control Panel > Classic View > User accounts > Turn user account Control on or off. But I recommend that you don’t as it’s more secure with it on.

In the properties set the program to "Run As Administrator" that should stop the pop up.

Hey metalmackey, their's a couple of ways to stop the anoying confirmation boxes constantly popping up.

Since you have just started using Windows Vista and maybe haven't set your account up properly as of yet, if you create the proper Administartor account by simply doing the following: and then once you have logged into it you will notice that you get no more anoying confirmation boxe's coming up but UAC is still fully running.

Logon to Vista using your normal username and password. (If you have a password). Click Start and type in "cmd" then right click on it, and click “Run as administrator”

Now type the following:

net user administrator <password> /active:yes

Now Switch User or logoff. Now the Administrator account should be their.

The thing i love about using the Administrator account is, UAC (User Account Control) is fully active but no more anoying confirmation boxes. Also you dont have to right click and select "Run as Administrator" on programs anymore.

Tip - Simply change the name of the Administrator`s account to your own and delete your other account. (Thats what i do anyway)

Once you have created the account, once you log into it you will notice that you get no more anoying corfirmination boxe's coming up but UAC is still fully active.

Now if your account is all nice and setup the way you would like it already and dont fancy setting up another account, you can get this very nifty program called Tweak UAC which is able to turn UAC off completely (Not recomended), Switch UAC to quiet mode which will keep the UAC on but suppress the elevation prompts for you or just leave it on and running at full functionality.

Since you are new to Windows Vista maybe this page will be of some use to you. If you have any concerns or questions please say and hopefully myself or someone else will be able to help you out. :)
