My fault :( :( I was reversing into a car park bay, my angle was obviously too tight as i very slightly touched another parked car.

Now there was no dents or anything - i was going far to slow, but I did leave some of my paintwork on the car. So I left a bit of paper tucked up with my mobile number on it in the drivers mirror.

The accident happend earlier this morning and I put on the note to call me after 5pm, when I left work at 3.30 the other car was still there...

What i need to know is should I report this to the police? Im paranoid im going to get done for leaving the scene or something... any advice?

cheers

tbh they willl probably do you for it for being an easy target.... what you should have done is wiped the paint off and left quick.

:)

i remember i hit someone in the snow a couple of years ago... scraped the whole side of the car when i went to go up the kerb and the back end slid off into another car. didnt do ANYTHING to either car and didnt get a claim either amazingly after giving them my mobile number. :)

I wish there were more drivers like you (although not for your parking skills ;) )

I wouldn't worry about it. You had good intentions and did the right thing. I don't know the law regarding the matter but IMO the police would have better things to do than chase up someone who left contact details after a very minor scrape.

I'd have looked at the paint you've left and see if it rubbed off. If it did, I would rub it off, then leave a note. People will still be entitled to do whatever they please, but are far less likely to if there isn't a big wedge of foreign paint on their car :p

Im pretty sure it would rub off, and to be fair there wasnt a big wedge of it. I guess its going to come down to the person in the end.

Very honest of you to do that, admirable. Now all you need to do is sit back and wait for an outrageous insurance claim to drop through the letterbox followed by whiplash claims, Claims Direct threats etc :D

Very nice of you to leave your details but did you by any chance take a pic of the damage?

My dad had a small bump and dented a door slight and left his details. The guy was trying to claim a lot of money so my dad went to look at this guys car and the tiny bump had became a huge dent  so he was told he could whistle for money.

If you take a pic it means you have proof of how much damager there was. :)

My exact thinking. Yes i've got a pic :)

You have to remember that most bumpers are plastic and will bend, there is a chance you may have broken something behind the bumper depending on the car, whether it be a linkage or part of the radiator/coolers, etc.

Good thing to leave your details, especially if it is a CCTV'd car park. Top marks to you

dont report it, and well done for doing the decent thing.
my dad had his car totaled down one side in tescos car park many years ago, the offender stopped and wrote the note, left it under his wiper and no one took a blind bit of notice... why should they he was writing the note right.... well when my old man gets back to his car it read " ive just done your car and everryone here is watching me write this note thinking i am leaving you my details..... well im not ha ha ha "

great ploy, only the chimp wrote it on a piece of headed note paper with " daves plumbing " all over it ( not the real company name )and was driving a transit with the same written on the side!

p.s my old man is a judge :)

And what happened? Was thrilled reading your post! :p

i think they ended up sorting my old mans car out pretty quickly, that would be about the same time as our 16th century cottage got centeral heating and a new kitchen fitted to the out buildings ;)
