Just had pc fixed

Pulling the plug on a powered up PC, can corrupt the cmos, a simple battery out reset (takes 5-30 minutes) is the usual cure. But its only a few minutes of actual work. They ripped you off.

yeah a sudden loss of power can leave static in the caps which can stop POST. DFI boards have suffered badly with static buildup in the past. For the record if you remove the power lead from the PSU and then press the on switch for about 5 seconds you'll see the fans spin up momentarily and then die, thats all the static in there and it'll normally boot after that.

Its annoying and to the untrained eye it looks totally FUBARed which leads me to suspect they have ripped you off a bit. Don't get me wrong, I'd do it but that doesn't mean its right ;)

Hmm actually if i recall correctly there was a powercut then i turned it back on for a while , turned it off via sleep mode , then manually because sleep mode never responds . Then the problem occurred i also noticed that sometimes when i tried turning on after it would shut off after 5 seconds , sometimes not though.

Meh, PC World charge £30 or something ridiculous to upgrade RAM, which has got to be the easiest upgrade ever. Companies will always prey on the vulnerable.

Amen. What's £30, when they tell you:

"How much would it cost if you got it wrong...."

£30 is nothing for someone who doesn't know, and for some peace of mind. I actually was bricking myself during my first RAM upgrade.
