Just how good is Microsoft Security Essentials?

I like MSE, it always picks up dodgy cookies and stuff like that. Loads better than paying for Norton or Kaspersky, less CPU hungry too. Everytime I've had Norton on my PC it's like having my mum sitting next to me saying "are you sure you should be clicking on that" then the PC crashes lol

ive been an avid avast user for as long as i can remember, and i recommend it to everyone who has virus issues, but i am really tempted to try microsoft security essentials

the one thing that stops me from trying MSE is that i have heard that because of peoples hatred of microsoft, they are making viruses specifically designed to defeat MSE

Been using MSE for well over a year and never had a problem, but like everything it needs to be paired with common sense. It's also very lightweight, even on my 2GHz C2D macbook it doesn't have a noticeable effect on performance.

Windows Security Essentials....for macs? why?

I know you can run Windows on a mac! via bootcamp , but the way he said it I thought he was using WSE on OSX, which I really didn't see the point of

The way he said it? He said he runs it on his core2 macbook, it was pretty damn clear to me and everyone else in the thread.

Found it was lacking and let a my wow account get hacked despite regular scanning before and after the event. Strangely Malwarebyte found what I think was the offending trojan and have now switched to avast home edition, I'm a cautious (and only I use that pc) pc user and never click dodgy links/attachments so figuring it might have from a dodgy advert as I only used curse for wow addons.
