Just installed a dual core 3800+

Pc is telling me there is one core tho? So is CPUZ?

Just installed dual core optimizer but its still the same. Sorry i searched but couldnt find anything, im new to the dual core lark :eek:

Also, which one is my CPU temp? So i can see what it is idle / load?

Go to Device Manager and highlight Computer and right-click, then force "Scan for hardware changes". With a little luck, your OS will recognise the cpu has changed and update your HAL.

Tried it and nothings changed. Also under the computer tap there is TWO "standard PC"

Is Dual-Core support 'On' in the BIOS? Plus is it updated to latest version?

Regarding SpeedFan: Helps to say which mobo you've got?

Strange didn't have to do anything for the 3700-4200x2 update (no OS reinstall) it deteced the dual core.

Is device manager reporting multi-processor CPU or uni? (Device Manager/Computer)

I find its about 70/30 whether it'll pick up the dually goodness on first install, device manager change does need to be done ever so often, had one or two pcs that needed a total reinstall for it to work as changing the pc type totally blew the windows up.

Dual core support is enabled

Under Computer, there is two options both saying "Standard PC"

When i try update driver, all i get is the option for standard PC, and an option for advanced configuration and power interface (ACPI)

Im reformatting pc atm, posting on laptop, i pressed f5 on installed so i could choose hal. I can see

ACPI MULTIPROCESSOR PC
MPS MULTIPROCESSOR PC

Which one is the right one?

Just went back to MCE, dual core wasen't detected, and I couldn't detect it. I disabled ACPI in BIOS, a fresh install detected the two cores.

No idea at all !

It was set to that before on my olod cpu because of an overclock, but cmos was cleared before i put new one in :confused:

If it was S754 i could understand, but as you have an X2 3800 which is S939 it should be 1000. Would check your bios settings to see if you can get it to redetect the correct settings or change this to 1000.

Ive dropped it again tho because its clocked up to 2.2 (stil crashing on me tho )

Nope, crashes on defult as well im pulling my hair out close to selling it.

BIOS says its 44c idle i dunno whats up!

It just crashed again FFS!

Bad mount on the heatsink. 44C idle indicates poor cooling, probably because of poor contact. Re-mount the heatsink.

Ok i will try this now.

Is it best to take the motherboard out?

I think i might have put too much thermal paste on, would this make it overheat as well?
