I've just installed Ubuntu for the first time on a Dell PC. Normally, it uses a Belkin USB Wifi dongle to connect to the router, but with this new operating system installed it can't seem to connect to the router unless WEP/WPA etc are disabled.

I've googled a little and help pages like this and this come up. Problem is, I've never used Linux before and all the jargon goes beyond me.

Any help please?

For the record, it's a Belkin F5D7051

Hmm it seems to be working now. I really can't figure out what's wrong. Sometimes it disconnects and is unable to reconnect for a while as well.

I've used Belkin adapters for a while (don't ask why) and they've always been unreliable, no matter what OS they're in. If possible i suggest running an ethernet cable through it, so much better.

My friend had the same problems with a belkin adpater. I had to use NDIS wrapper to use a Windows driver to connect to the internet wirelessly, it wasnt that hard. But I am slightly experienced at linux :P

-It may not fix your problem though, it may just be the linux drivers arent up to scratch
