Bought a MSI GTX 670 OC the other day and just got round to installing it and the flipping noise this thing makes is terrible

It sounds like a really low grinding sound even when idling, Wasn't aware of noise problems with the 670's but a quick google confirms the reference design does suffer from problems.

The thing is I'm going on Holiday next week so RMA'ing it might be a bit difficult and although I don't like the noise it wouldn't kill me to put up with it for a bit.

So is there any good reasonably priced after market coolers that would cure this problem?

Should have done your homework a bit before buying it, but doesn't matter now. Why not just DSR it and order a new card after you have read some reviews etc. Post it off before you go and you could have a new card waiting by the time you get back from holiday.

I know I made a silly assumption that all 670's were good, this is my first component purchased that I didn't fully research :(

I've filled in a returns request and will be getting £315 refunded on return of the card.

So what 670 should I go for with good QUIET! cooling and not too expensive?

That could be tight!

Looks to be the same size as the GTX 580 but that tapers off at the end, Doesn't seem this one does.

I'll be going on holiday this Thursday so my plan is to post the MSI back and just wait it out for a refund but order a new 670 over the weekend and get it delivered by Tuesday :)

Do you think I can get away with just carrying on using the MSI till I post it back Monday (only put it in tonight) or would that be wrong? It's just a lot of work getting cards in and out of such a small case as you have to remove just about everything first!

Just checked on the EVGA Cards and found a few comments about "Buzzing sound" would really like the Windforce card but can't confirm it will fit in my modded to take a GTX 580 SG05

I have the KFA OC, it is whisper quiet and a fraction shorter than my flatmates windforce card. Doesn't clock too well though (well, the memory sure does, but the core doesn't).

I didn't go for the windforce because of concerns over its size either, the KFA fits my case fine though

Must say I'm being tempted by the KFA2, Looks like the fans don't extend past the end of the PCB which if I'm right makes it the same length as the GTX 580

Correct, they don't. Very nice card and it really is quiet, had no idea how loud my 5870s were until I replaced them with one of those!

How did you mod it?

I cut a section of metal out of the front section of the case just behind the facia.

It only just fits and you wouldn't fit anything longer in. You pretty much have to have everything out of the case bar motherboard and CPU to get the video card in and out!!!

Got the KFA2 today and happy to report it fits nicely in a SG05, in fact it would fit inside a SG05 without modding but only just :)

Happy to report it's very quiet, feels and looks vastly superior to the MSI which I've already been refunded for with no hassle :)
