installed my xfx geoforce extreme 8800gtx which came yesterday.
had a problem with the length of the card, eigth of an inch to long,(quietpc case)lucky for me,there where some holes on the edge of the hdd cage, one was in line with the card,so i only had to hacksaw about one eigth in twice, then i had plenty of space to fit the card in.
the software installed okay.
the temps at idle are 60%C,72% playing wov(bob2).
i have the gpu fan in rivatuner running @70%,pretty silent.
does anyone think those temps are to high?
my 1900xt used to run at 45%C idle,60%load.
i was thinking of buying the arctic cooling "accelero xtreme",but not sure about it.
one problem i do have is,the monitor doesnt use the DVI-D,it uses the DVI-A,which i have tried to change on the monitor, but it wont have it.
my ATI 1900xt used the DVI-D,no problem, and im using the same cable.
is anyone else able to use the DVI-D with the 8800gtx on
an lcd monitor?
my monitor is a viewsonic VP2130b 22".
thanks.

Those temps are really good, if i remember 80-85 is when the fan kicks in 100% so anything below that is kewl (relatively speaking :p) , kudos on the new card :D

I had a similar story as I had to do some creative hard drive movement to make room for it to fit but luckily no attacking my case with power tools.

Mine idles around 66-68 and rises to around 80 when put under load for a while, from what I understand this is pretty much average for the stock cooler. I was tempted to get a 3rd party cooler as it seems unlikely to clock much with the stock one (my one attempt at 650 resulted in lock up) but as the card comes pre overclocked and performance is fine it seems a bit overkill for now.

thanks for the replies chaps, for now,i will leave the stock cooler on.
i have noticed if i take the fan cover off the bottom of the front of case, the idle temps go down to 56%C, so i can always do that.

have any of you running the DVI-D on the 8800gtx,instead of the DVI-A on an lcd monitor?

If you're looking to OC your card, the AC Accelero 8800 is worth considering. The highest I've seen under full load is 49 (60% fan), it's never gone above 50, (idle is 39) this is with 625/1464/2000 (Core/Shader/Mem) clocks.

not looking to overclock really, just would like to get the temps lower.
btw, does the accelero xtreme cooler take the air out of the case,or does it stay in the case for the fans to extract it?

Personally I'd create fan profiles in Rivatuner and manually set fan to 100% for gaming sessions, then 70% for desktop use
