Just installed Ubuntu 8, no sound!

My soundcard is an E-mu 1212m, and I only really need to get it working with a media player type proggie...

It doesn't appear to be detected, so does that mean I'm stuck forever with no sound?

Wget is taking forever as my broadband likes to behave like 56k.

I must say I'm really impressed with Ubuntu tho, once I change over to my 7800GT I should get dual displays also as this is another thing I'm missing...

I've given up for now, I've found it's randomly freezing, and there's no way to reset without pressing the button on the computer, so it's back to XP for now.

I've asked over at the ubuntu forums and no joy so far.
