All I can say is wow, I was previously at 57C load, now after an hour i'm 48C load. It's the first time I've did this, but now i'm going to be lapping all my CPU's, Warranty be damned!

There are some visible scratches still, but after an hour or so I kinda had enough. :D

Was it hard to do? I've always shied away because of the warranty issues, but to be honest, if you can drop 10C for an hour's work, it does sound well worthwhile. I have a £22 2.66GHz Celeron here that I might have to have a practice on before I try the real thing.

Nah mate, I bought the pack for about £5 that included 5 stripes of sandpaper. All I did was fix me a bowl of water, dip the sandpaper in then put it on a flat surface, in my case a Duke Blue Devil's glass light sign.

I then proceeded to apply pressure on the chip and went up 10x, turned the CPU position 45 degrees (although people suggest 90 degrees) and did another 10x. Did it around 100x times with the first bit of sandpaper, then did it more the thinner I got, I think about 250x+ with the final bit of sandpaper. Best to dry off the CPU after every 10x and dab water on the sandpaper when it becomes harder to sand.
