Heyo!

I've not had a television basically ever but I'm thinking of getting one for watching films and TV on with the lady, something not too big, not too expensive. Maybe like 38" or there abouts.

I know not the first thing about TVs so I figured I'd ask, are there any brands I should steer clear of? Brands I should seriously consider first?

Budget-wise I was hoping for £200 or less (ideally less but y'know).

Oh and I might get a console in the next year or so so if there's more to consider for that?

Cheers!

The TV market is split in to two segments. Theres the major brands such as Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and LG. These are the brands that mostly make their own product. The rest of the market is largely populated by badges. That's to say that what you're buying has rarely come out of a factoryfactory bearing the same name. It was made in a faceless factory and the badge stuck on. These are the products you'll find on supermarkets, and at Argos and on the Web discount stores. The product is aimed at the value customer looking for the biggest screen at the lowest price. Quality comes much lower on the list of priorities. That's kind of where you're going to be shopping if you want a 38" TV for £200 or less.

For gaming you're really looking for a TV with very low lag. £200 just isn't enough money, maybe not even for a 32" in that category.

Hmm, I see, I'd prefer a quality TV screen though.

So what kind of price should I be looking at for a good brand ~38" TV that works well with a console?
