Hi folks,

My current build is

2080 Super (4095 MB) Intel Core i9-9900K Micro-Star International Co. Ltd. MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON (MS-7B17) (U3E1) 32 GB RAM

I'm looking to upgrade to a 3090 Ti - but I am not sure on what upgrades I should look for in terms of MOBO and Intel Core.

Can anyone please advise? Will I also have to replace/remove the RAM?

What PSU are you using as I think you need a 850 watt + especially with a 9900K and more if overclocking.

Not a chance. You would need a 850 watt or better psu. More likely 1k with a 9900k

Ther is nothing wrong with your 9900k and 32 gig of ram so the only thing you need is a better gpu. A 3080 would be a huge upgrade and run well in 4k.

Hi Mr Dfour

Apologies for the late update - but I have decided to go with a 3090 upgrade and an upgrade in SSD.

With my 750 Watt PSU, I presume I should have no issues taking out the 2080 and slotting in the 3090 or do you have any added tips or precautions?

Thank you and a happy holidays to you!

First DONT post links to competitors as this is a site run by Overclockers.

Yes you should be fine with your 750 watt psu with a 3090 non-ti although I would say that is well over priced for a founder edition card.

As much as I hate the 4080 pricing its still 35% faster thana 3090 and cheaper than that overpriced scalper owned card. You should also be fine to run it with your 750 watt psu.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,409.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

If you have spare NVME slots on your motherboard (it has 2) then buy a nvme drive instead of the old fashioned sata one. Both for only £9 more than that terribly priced 3090.

Happy Xmas to you as well. :)

Dfour, apologies! I have edited the post to remove the content. Slipped my mind entirely.

Thank you for the comparisons too! Appreciate you taking the time.

3090 has big power spikes of 500w , your 750w mite not be enough so if you get crashes its more than likely psu wastage.

Yeah, I have been doing some reading and the table seems split. Some folks don't think it will be an issue, but as an added treat I have ordered the:

Corsair RM850 (2021), RM Series, 850 Watt 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Triple EPS12V Connectors, Low-Noise Operation, Zero RPM Fan Mode, 105°C Capacitors, Modern Standby) Black

Fingers crossed for no connectivity issues with my Z390

Im in a similar boat, looking to upgrade, computer is mainly for gaming currently at 2560 x 1440p res, have a asus rog strix b450-f gaming mobo, 16gb ram, and a 2080 super, cpu is a ryzen 9 3900x 12 core, is there any way i can change a few parts, or best to upgrade everything ?

Drop in 5800x3d CPU is cheapest route with a new gpu....you'll prob just have to flash bios...it'll give a good gaming boost. I wouldn't spend too much though as I'd just go am5 otherwise...what speed is your ram?

after checking on task manager i see that i have 2133 mhz ram speed, i would like a new graphics card, possibly cpu, but then the mobo might hold me back, i have spare money there but wouldnt want to go too crazy aas its impossible to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Just about to take off...your mob should hold you back..a bios update will be fine as it can run 5000 series cpu no prob.
5800x3d will give you close to 7600x gaming performance. Its the best gaming cpu that smd do without upgrading to am5 platform...not cheap though...a 7600x and 32gb ddr5 ram can be had for not much more than the cpu, so up to you if you want to switch to am5 platform..
Your ram could do with improving to 3600c16 area to get the best...so really look at prices.
Don't think I'll have time just here, but can layer after I land and get home
Nothing wrong with you monitor. You could go 32in same res though loose a little pixel density.
Other option is go 34" ultra wide...looking at that myself at the mo
If going 4k, then 32" or above.
Downside going 4k of course is you need a beefier gpu. Upside is if just gaming, could just go for a 42" or 48" oled TV...thats way you get big screen and can still link console if you have that, as tv will have nice hdmi 2.1.

All comes down to how much you want to spend. You could try 2nd hand 3090 from members mkt if you don't want to splash out on new gpu

And type of games?

Thatrs a good update and there wont be any problems with compatability.

Please dont buy the founder edition from that seller on the other place. The other place isnt an official retailer of the FE cards so that make the seller a scalper. Dont feed the scalpers. :( You could buy a 3080 for just over £700 and save even more money.

@Subzero85 Why dont you create your own thread? I know @Craig_d1 is trying to help you but this isnt your thread. :)
