Just moved to new flat: problems getting internet

Hi all, just thought I would pick the brains of you all in the chance any of you have had a similar problem.

I have moved into a new flat, and while it has a BT socket in the premises .... according to BT and their broadband checker on their website my particular flat does not exist.

I am in number 2, but the checker goes from number 1, skips 2 and then lists all the other flats in the complex.

Talk talk could not help as I don't exist according to their systems.

The address shows up for all other things, post office, electricity and gas suppliers.

Any ideas?
 
yeah the connection fee is a shocker, iirc when i checked with them for my house it was £150, or £50 if i took my broadband with them, ended up going with virgin, who similar too you, didnt initially have my address listed :(.

I did that, they could not see my flat on their systems either.

Just checked on BE website, they see my flat and see that a line is there up to my flat.

Sky, say I need a line setup ( connection and line rental ) but they say it only costs £10.

Anyone have any experience with either provider?

It is also strange that BE see my address but not BT!
 
at the end of the day you need the line operational to even consider getting internet. your address wont show on website checkers etc since you dont have a valid line setup yet.
ok so you have a socket , great. everyone and their dog has a socket but do you pay line rental? if no , then you need that first before you consider internet.

from your original post it seems that your trying to get internet without a line, hence why no-one can find you! im sure the other properties either have or have had a line setup in the past which will be why they appear.

is this the first flat youv moved into? would have thought this was standard stuff to understand?
of course your utilites show up! they would have been established with the contractors of the property way before you moved in and would then get transfered in your name upon signing the contract...

phone line is completely different as its not a vital utility.

Maybe the existing line was provided by another telecoms operator and this is why it is invisible to BT, they just want to charge you for installing a new line.

I find Sky, provided you are on LLU and not their rebranded SKy Connect (BT) package, to be excellent. I don't have line rental with them but rather wish I had done now as BT ripped me off for a connection charge of £125 despite there being a working line coming to the property.

No experience with BE, but I have heard good things.

I understand what you are saying, but I was unable to proceed with getting a line setup due to the fact that according to BT my address did not exist.

My address shows up as existing on BE and sky are only asking for £10 to setup a line to my address which they can see also.

My original post was really asking the question as to why bt could not see my address.

Is there anyway to find out whether or not I would be getting the LLU service before proceeding with sky?
 
did you ring them though? they have different systems to the one they use on the web.

given that BE are on the openreach network if BE can see you then BT will be able too.

as for checking llus etc, search on samknows.com

Thanks, seems llu services are enabled on my exchange with sky operating on that exchange also.
