Hi everyone!

I just finished (I think) picking the components for my build, but i'm stuck on the case.
Here's the proposed build:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 412 Slim 58.4 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac) ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston Beast 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Toshiba 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 270X 4GB DirectCU II Video Card
Power Supply: XFX 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive:LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer

I'm planning to have the CPU overclocked a fair bit, to 4.2 GHz at least, and I want to leave the possibility for upgrade in the future quite open (adding a second graphics card, better CPU/GPU cooling, more storage I mean), so I'm looking for a case with the best upgradability as possible. This means, of course, also good ventilation. However, I don't want it to be completely open like a Zalman Z11 plus, or a 690 III, since noise will be an issue. Speaking of noise, typical silent cases don't offer good ventilation, so something like a Define R4 or Silencio 652 would also not be suitable, since I prefer to sacrifice silence than burning my components away. (yeah, I read some recent threads here and elsewhere where people posted that they will return their newly-bought 2nd graphics card because of overheating inside a Define R4...)

Another issue is looks. This build will sit in my living room, in a very visible place, so I can't even think of proposing something like a Thermaltake Overseer to my slightly OCD girlfriend... So it would have to be something with the looks of the Define R4 but with better ventilation while the noise must not be heard 5m away. (yes, I realise i'm almost asking for the Holy Grail here...)

Yet another issue is connectivity: I want at least 4 USB connections (2 x 3.0 and 2 x 2.0) and headphone and microphone jacks on the top of the machine, plus room for 2 5,25" bays (meaning NZXT H440 is out, sadly...)

Any opinions?

I say opinions because, as I mentioned, I'm pretty sure that the perfect case for this particular set of demands does no exist, but give me your thoughts on how I can approach this problem and which do you think is the most suitable case.

Thanks a lot guys!

Cheers

Edited - pleas don't post competitor link and/or pricing.

Do you have a particular budget in mind?

Have you seen the Arc Midi R2? Unfortunately it's only got two USB ports on the top, but it's got front panel audio and two 5.25 bays. It's good on ventilation too and I don't know about you but think it looks pretty spot on. It's built solidly and there's not to many holes so the noise won't be an issue. You kit it out with a nice set of fans too.

Also look at the Corsair 450D. Still only has 2 USB's on the front and I'm honestly not a fan of the aesthetics (which is subjective from person to person of course), but in terms of functionality it should do the job.

Also swap out the 4670k with this;

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £189.95
Total : £199.55 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Better temps as it has a soldered IHS and it clocks better.

I wouldn't get an XFX PSU either. I have one and it is a great bit of kit, but XFX are useless for warranty, and as such I would avoid them. Get a SuperFlower Golden Green. :)

Thanks for the tip on the CPU, I might just trim the budget a bit and get a 1TB HDD and use the difference in that processor...
As for the case budget, I would say something around the €120... I could go higher if I'm convinced that it is an amazing case which I never would have to replace.
The 4 USBs on the top are quite crucial for me, since I have quite some external storage plus a headset with a USB surround sound card and I'm constantly swapping out both the externals and the headset.

Funny you should mention that, since I chose this particular one based, not only on its practically spotless reviews but mainly because I'm offered a 5-year warranty on it.

Ive been looking for same kind of case pauloforte ,not having much luck...nothing really catches my eye...only the coolermaster cosmos II ultra but to big and expensive, the Cosmos se looks nice but still a little pricey for me...

OT slightly but you should swap the M500 for the MX100. It's faster, has slightly more capacity and it's £8 cheaper.

8 GB instead of 16 for budget and because I don't think there's any significant added value, at this moment.
I really don't know what the problem is with this PSU, since all I really see are stellar reviews on the internet and I have 5 years of warranty. Plus, I'm buying it from a physical store, so I can deal with them instead of directly with XFX, which simplifies the overall procedure, in terms of shipping and replacement, in my opinion.

Great tip, mate, thanks!!
It really slipped my eye and I ordered the PC already but I will try to change the order to include that one. Cheers!

Any other suggestions for the build, anyone?

/thread

All of these look like very good cases, but i'm really limited to the shop's stock. I ended up going for a Define R4, since I wanted to make a choice fairly quickly. We'll see if it was a good one.

The r4 will be great for you, I had my old system in an r3 and it was awesome :)

And then I made it even better by modding it and putting a 360mm radiator in the front.... :D
