Just ordered an Aurora, what do people think of it and what have you done to it?

Hullo everyone,

I just placed an order for a black Gigabyte Aurora to replace my Antec SLK3000B, as it has everything I want in a case:
  • It is sexy, light Aluminium.
  • It has a door to hush the spinning of DVD's and other disks.
  • It has 120mm fans only, with two extracting for good and quiet cooling.
  • It has rudimentary cable tidying.
I will go about getting rid of all the blue LED's, upgrading the filtering and trying to to dampen the thin Aluminum to make it as silent as possible whilst still cooling optimally. I have also ordered a 400W Enermax Liberty to be able to tidy it as much as possible and to provide higher amperages on the 12V rails.

What has everyone else done to it and what would you do to it (apart from obviously making it less ugly)?

Temperatures are fine and it's very quiet, though I suppose it depends on what you put in it. The noisiest thing in mine is the Raptor HD but I intend doing something about that in the very near future.

take some time to routwe the cables round the BACK of the lower HDD cage, if you have a couple IDE ahrd drives there a nightmare of a mess when mounted cable end first.
ive hass to saw the rails a bit so the sidde of thre case fits on but its well worth it for the sake of cable tidyness.
first thing you could mod is the fans. replace them with un-modded 120mm fans as I, and a few tohers think they just spin a tad too slow :(

ive had the whole case appart and into flat pannels, and i have to say its very well built and very neat.
the front is a work of art too.

oh and the PSU mount rails are perfect for insertin cold cathode tubes !
plenty of watercooling portential too ;)
Rick

as for 'what ive done to it' as i said ive stripped it down to pannels for painting of the inner chasis, and replaced every pesky BLUE LED with Red ones, and the side pannels are currently on paint stands in the garage for some nice airbrush art ;)
im planning on moddint that tool box to house my new pump sooner or later too.

btw... did you get the mesh window or the larger clear perspex window version ?

if you recieve the mesh sided one, id cover the inside with some thin perspex as ice heard it improves the cooling if you have any passivly cooled components. i know my system temperautre raises 8-10 degrees C if i take the side of mine off !

Received the Aurora today. Unfortunately, although it was described and pictured as being with the mesh side, it has in fact come with the window. I have asked whether I can exchange the case or just the panel.

However, does anyone else fancy a black windowed side in return for a mesh one?

I could have course try to mod the window with a filter to let more air in. However, I don't really have the tools to do so.

Opinion is that cooling may be improved with the perspex side panel though I have the mesh one. I suppose you could drill a few neat holes in it but I'd wait until one of the case experts answer your post :)
