Hey guys.

Last night I ordered parts for a new PC, it is my first time building a PC and I bought the following:

5c7025dca7f0075038a30a9d51536a86.png

For what I bought, is it 'decent'? Will it all work together? Will Windows 7 Professional 64bit work? I also spoke spoke to my dad who was talking about thermal compound for the CPU - do I need to buy some and is it essential? Or would it come with the CPU?

Thanks in advance!

All seems good EXCEPT....i5 CPU's don't use triple channel RAM, thats for i7 systems.

You need dual channel, i.e 2x2GB.

Cooler might come with a pre-applied thermal compound, but generally better to get aftermarket stuff like mx-3 or arctic silver 5.

Looks a good spec, but like already mentioned above ideally you need to use dual channel memory. (or use only 2 sticks of the Patriot)

Edit: Has your order been packed yet, what does your order status show.

Ocuk are open today.

Go for it , edit your ram , your mobo only supports dual channel ram anyway, so no i7's gonna cure that, get good dual channel ram or just keep your current kit and keep the third chip spare, its a bit of a waste but wont do any harm.

So what would be the best solution guys?

Leave the order as it is and keep 1 spare (?)
Edit order and get different ram.
Upgrade motherboard and CPU?

Help please :D

Edit the order to a good dual channel kit, like this one, and add some decent thermal paste, like this one.

Also, don't you need a case?

Oh, and I'd change the PSU to a modular one, easier cable management. I'd go for this one.

Thats what i wuda done , itchy fingers, but if you want to digest the advice on here proper you could have a good time speccing this right for the next hour or two make some different decisions, and end up with a better product your keeping for a good year or two... (for perhaps a day-or two delay)

I am advocating patience but bear in mind i have none of my own >< So i understand if you cant bear to wait :)

Seriously though , do add some good thermal paste, tube costs nothing and its always good to have.

Hmm so, I'll phone up and change the RAM to:

and add in:

It will all work perfectly, right? :P
And lastly, what number will I need to phone to edit this order?

Just call sales, their switch can redirect you anyway if you've gone wrong, plus sales answers the fastest :P

The mx 3 is perfect, im a personal fan of artic silver 5 , but the mx performs better it seems.

MX-3 is safer for the non-experienced 'cos its non-conductive and just as good as AS5.

Still a bit worried about the pre-purchased case. What is it? ATX and not mATX I hope and what about case fans?

Cheers,
vfm

Will the graphics card fit in that case? I had one a while ago and I wasn't particularly impressed with the space or the airflow.

EDIT: Just remembered that I gave that case to my mate and he has a 4850 in there ok so a GTX460 should be fine as they're shorter afaik :)
