An 8800 GTX along with a Core 2 Quadro QX6700. That was some serious money for me to spend, I'm only a student. I sure hope itll be worth the money. If it don't play UT2007 and Crysis maxed out then I want my money back :D

your both just jealous :D I'll be able to reap the benefits of quad core straight away cos I do a lot of CPU 3D rendering inside of Maya and it takes full advantage of multiple cores. As for the 8800GTX, the benchmarks look really good.

I wouldn't say 8800GTX is a total waste of money but the QX6700 is definitely a waste of money. Don't tell me you are making full use of the processor, cause that is hardly believable.

TBH. If he has the money and that are the parts he wants..then why **** it off?

If you lot had that sort of money to spare im sure you would have gone for something like that.

Maybe because the E6600 can reach speeds of the Extreme Edition doesnt mean its a waste of money, its upto peoples own decisions rather than other people to **** them off.

Nice parts mate :)

yea, I spend a lot on components as well, but getting a quad core seems weird for me when I am hardly using the full feature of my x6800

as soon as the devs start coding games that are multi threaded, dual cores and quad cores should really show their potential. All should be revealed nxt year. Half Life 2 : Episode 2 may well be the first game to take advantage of dual/quad core processors. You've then got Crysis, Alan Wake and UT2007 too.

May I ask, how long more is that? Dual core processor has been out for quite sometime, why is it until now there is hardly any game that makes use of dual core then? So judging at the rate of how games are going atm...

How long more?

- about the only advantage right now of a quad core... if you do do a lot of work in programs like maya, lightwave, max, etc. then you should see your rendering/raytracing times drop by more than 75%.

i'm not jealous but you asked for my opinion so i said it. with that cpu you won't see the full benefits for years, and i reckon in six month's, the price of that cpu will be halfed. you could have waited until then, but its not my money so good luck paying off your student debt lol

nice one mate :) if you got the cash i dont blame. you should be able to run any game full spec for a long while to come :D

well, the main reason I went ahead with this chip was for my 3d work that I do, but of course I wanted a good chip for games as well. Apparantly the QX6700 overclocks pretty good and it usually gets to 3GHz+ pretty easily on air cooling without any voltage tweaks so I can get it to perform as good as an X6800.

Well we can't comment on his student loan situation. Maybe his dad is fully loaded or something, so judge not until you know the facts people!
