i have a gigabyte ds3p p35 board and geil 6400 ram,

the multiplyer is at 8, it seems to be running at about 2.88ghz which im happy with (its an E6400 SO STOCK IS 2.13).

its running very cool, only thing is i think the ram is at 750, shouldnt it be at 800? and the ram is like 5 5 5 17, shouldnt it be lower.

Appriciate some advice i havent done this in a LONG while.

cheers

Even if its the basic Geil, which I've used a lot, I would expect it to handle at least 4, 3, 3, 9 at 750 (2x375) provided it has at least 2.0v And, I'd expect that to give it a bigger boost than going to 800. Just try SuperPi before and afterwards. Oh and don't forget to check it for stability with OCCT or even Orthos given that its a C2D.

Cheers,

The ram is running at the default settings for your motherboard. Not the default settings for your ram.

Now the thing is you will hardly notice in real world stuff (if at all) any difference if you do up your ram speed and drop your latencies. I would just keep with what you have got as it seems to be working well for you.

But if you want to increase the ram speed you will need to do so in the bios. The way to do that without increasing FSB would be to select a different ram dividers. That means the ram ratio's that are available to you.

ok so i may aswell just keep the cpu overclock running as it is, it seems stable and cool enough :) unless i can get it to 3ghz but im not too bothered.

Sorry for basic questions, but thanks for answers.

Mate you could try for a little more if you want to. Just record your current bios settings so that if you want to go back to where you are now you have them handy.

And ask away every single one of the experts on this forum, and there are a few really top blokes here, started from scratch. So there are no stupid questions only stupid answers.

Cheers
