Well I am the proud owner of an AMD 965 and sitting here, have read many posts, I thought I would have a go. Shifted the multiplier to 19 and upped the vcore to 1.4 and my system now happily running at 3.8ghz and idling at 28c.

I have yet to prime95 test for stability but I am just so proud of myself I had to post something!

i wish my cpu would idle that low.. would have thought with a h50 i wouldnt be getting 43idle on 1st core and 35 on last, especially when its throttled down with that intel function. any way good one pal :) its a nice feeling, almost like your cheating the manufacturer for 3rd more speed for no extra cost :P

Cheers dude, still got some stability tested to go and may chuck another fan in my case to help. Those temps are using air with a Thermolab Baram, cracking cooler!

Does mean I'm permanently in my dressing gown though.

Welshdragon, if you decide to go up to 4Ghz make sure that Cool n Quiet still downclocks your CPU when idling. I found that at 20x multi it wouldn't go downclock and being a cheap student I didn't want to have it running full whack all the time.

If it's a C3 it should reach 4.0ghz, if it's a C2 like mine it'll probably max at 3.8ghz. (Without going to crazy voltages).

Mine will do 3.8ghz on 1.5125v, but 3.9ghz isn't even stable at 1.55v, the max AMD say to use on air.

Its an 'RB-C3', so once I get the hang of it may try for higher. I've put it down to stock for now while I experiment as it still shreds verything I need it to do.

Tikkabhune, I noticed coolnquiet seemed to be working at 3.8 with the extra vcore. Wasn't sure if overclocked would stop it or not?

I run mine at stock now too, as soon as I overclock CnQ gets disabled so it's running at 140w constantly, whereas if I run it at stock for nearly all the time it's running it only uses 20w. 120w saving is a lot when you're paying university accomodation price for leccy. :P

My coolnquiet works at 3.8 with a 19x multi. It's just when I had it at 200 x 20 that it didn't seem to work. However, with 220 x 18.5 it did work. Maybe it was just flukey.

Currently stock is 3.4 (multi17 and volts 1.3750). If I take it to 19 with volts at 1.425 does that sound right voltage wise? Did another check and cnq does seem to work so would be happy at 3.8ghz.

Anyone else running a 965 at 3.8 and what volts are you using stable? Also, mine is the 125w version.

Also is prime the best test of stability and could someone link me to it?

prime is what most people use, there are several other alternatives, but for the most part they are pretty similar, ones to look at are:
Intelburntest
OCCT
Linx
Orthos (pretty much same base code as prime)

thread HERE details how to use prime, as well as some discussion on best temp monitor to use

Cool'n'Quite doesn't work on my motherboard, but Phenom MSR runs fine. I leave the bios settings alone, except for disabling cnq, and then use phenom msr to run my x2 550 at 800,2800,and 3800.

Slight mistake on my phenommsr settings. I am running

4x @ 1.1v
12x @ 1.3v
19.5 @1.425

I've not ran prime or anything like that, but I've playe ddragon age, wolfebstein, mass efect, the witcher and the latest medal of honor for hours without any problem.

Well, mine seems to be running nicely at x19 with 1.425 volts. cnq still works which is great. Noticed a little gain in real terms and my temps are doing veyr well, espcecially as its very cold outside and the heating is on a lot!
