my best friends little brother was desperate for a new pc and the family is strapped for cash so i did them a mix of Members market and new parts. Basically his family took me in when i was 16 and had no where to live, i figured this is the least i can do so ive done this for free.

1 gig ram £45 Got OCZ PC4000 DDR 2 X 512mb for £40 from MM
AMD A3000+ RETAIL CPU + High grade 95% copper CPU cooler £70
7800GT Graphics card buget £80, paid £120
80 gig drive budget £25, paid £20
8X DvD rw drive. Free from me. Worth £15.
mobo £45, bought new asrock 939 £39
case, budget = £22 paid £15 for a case from MM
monitor budget = £75 New CTX VL701B Black 17 Inch CRT Monitor paid £78
Black Logitech keyboard £7
Logitech B58 Black Premium Optical Wheel Mouse £7
Black 600W PMPO Subwoofer with Satelite Speakers.£7
windows XP Home = free (they already own a copy.)

Total = £400

hes moving up from:

1300Mhz duron
512mb pc133
FX5200 128mb
Jetway motherboard
80 gig maxtor.
Generic 17" CRT

(his sisters getting the above, hence i couldnt canibalise parts and spend money on better parts)

i cant wait to see his face when i show him doom in max detail lol :D

marks out of ten ?

Thats a very good thing you did. Good rig too. Anyone would be happy with that.

lets just hope none of the second hand parts fail

they were going to buy a media center pc on hire purchase for £650 (not including interest)

it had the following
made by phillips
AMD A64 3800 cpu (didnt specify if it was 754 or 939 but id put money on it being a 754 sempron job)
unknown motherboard
Nvidia 6200 256mb
512mb DDR
300 gig hard drive
dvdrw
small atx case with urine poor cooling and a media bay at the front (half a ton of I.O. connections that they dont even have things to plug into let alone actually know what they are for.)

i convinced them it would be no better for them than the bucket they have now as they want a games pc and not a media center with the graphics power of a pickled onion.

good case for the cash

2 x 120mm fans

indeed :) should all be up and running by monday i hope. i think the best buy though has to be the 7800GT, just a fantastic price, should hold its value nicely for a while.

plus with the asrock motherboard i picked he wont have to upgrade it for at least 2 years as it takes an expansion board allowing him to use AM2 and DDR2 :)
