And got to the 3rd test, the CPU test. That test was going at about 1 FPS, maybe less. Is that normal??? I cancelled it just incase.

yup thats normal. dont worry about it, 3dmark06 is verry stressfull programe.

Stressful, yes. But the CPU test in 06 is just stupid IMO.

They could've produced a CPU limited graphics scene, with heavy AI, physics etc and very low (but accelerated) graphics settings. This would've been representative of a CPU-limited game scene.

But instead, they take the easy-route and just take a simple scene and *force the CPU to do all the rendering*. I mean, what game since 1998 has used software rendering? How is this a realistic test of gaming CPU power? I suspect that one of the mainr esons they chose this form of test was so that they could easily scale it to use an arbitrary number of CPUs. Of course, game-logic in real world games cannot be scaled to several threads so easily.

all true. thats why i dont use 3dmark06 to stability test etc. i just run it as a bench mark, when i do run it that is :)

When my overclock is unstable, the CPU test causes my PC to hang so I would say it is a reasonable indication of stability :p
