Just received my *OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle but with a different CPU Cooler

Got it installed fine, fired up fine, slapped my Win7 disc in, installed Windows, and then noticed:

I've not even been into BIOS, let alone change anything back to stock. The CPU and RAM where in the board, and the CPU had traces of thermal paste on it, so it's defo been set up in a rig prior to shipping

Do I need to put a phone call in to tech support in the morning?

I would put a note in the customer section below, looks like you have lost your overclock.

Speedstep reduces the multiplier.

Another thing to check is to go into the BIOS and see if overclockers have saved the o/c in a profile.

Your system is new so the support guys will help and advise you on 08719109101 during work hours as well if you can't find the OC profile..?I think it's f12 during boot up

Ok, been into BIOS, found Speedstep (C1E) in Advanced CPU Settings, it was set to Auto, so have disabled that but still same results

In main BIOS screen, hit F12 and theres 8 profiles to choose from, number 1 and number 2 are both labelled OCUK and then theres some defaults, last known good config, fail safe etc ...

It doesn't actually tell me which one i'm currently using ... Shall I try select 1 and then 2 and see if the settings change? I dont want to start playing with stuff that OCUK dont want me to

Neither OCUK profile changed anything ... Went back in to Advanced CPU Settings, underneath the C1E (SpeedStep) setting there was also a setting for

C3/C6/C7 State Support = When enabled, the CPU core frequency and voltage will be reduced. The C3/C6/C7 state is a more ehanced power saving state than C1

So, i've disabled that and now it looks like this:

Does that look about right? Could someone look at the screenies and verify these settings look stable for 4.0Ghz?

Also, why dont OCUK disable these kind of power saving options before they ship it, surely they know it causes plenty of scenarios like this?

i still dont understand why OCUK dont disable C1E and C3/C6/C7 when settings OC'd profiles ... oh well ... hopefully it will pass the stress tests with no problems :)

Cheers for your help fellas, much appreciated!

It's just a power saving device

No point in running your CPU flatout at high voltage all the time... when the system is idling.

Simple comparison.... do you keep your motor ticking over at 4000 rpm if your stationary in a traffic jam for 2 hours or tick over at 800 rpm?

its because its only weirdos that dont use speedstep. I never used to, but now that my pc idles at 417w (wall draw, with it enabled) it does make a difference lol, and it doesnt make any performance difference that i can tell.
