Well I renewed my car tax online. The disc came through the post 4 days after the application. I have to say that this does save a lot of time. It works pretty well. You have to have a new style of MOT certificate though for it to work. It's about time they brought this in makes life so much easier!

Anybody else done it online?

Not yet but i will be testing it out in 6 months time, if its good then i will renew both cars this way, saves me going into the village on lunchtime!

I've not bought tax online but I have declared a SORN online.

It took literally 30 seconds, just had to enter my registration number and the code that is on the V5c document. Easy job, hassle free. :)

Certainly beats queueing at the post office!

Definitely. I can only ever do it over the weekend, and my local post office which does tax discs is always crammed. Long live the online revolution!

The downside is that you have to wait 4 days for the tax disc before you can drive the car, unless you order a new one before it expires.

Can you do that?

edited to make sense :p

I just ordered it and drove it nonetheless - I have proof that I have bought it so I'm not too fussed about it. If you time it well and do it just the week before it's all good anyway. :)

Ahh, I thought it was an offense to drive with a tax disc or even have a vehicle on a public road not displaying one?

Not having a go or anything just asking, wouldn't want to give them an excuse

Ahh I thought so.

Anyway at least the DVLA have got something right. They just need more of those vans that catch out those true tax-dodgers and people who drive without insurance. :)

'tis an offence to fail to display a valid tax disk, as I recall, whether you posess one or not.

Really? Damn! My tax disc has been in my glovebox for months due to lack of tax disc holder or inclination to buy/find/steal one :p.

Ill be doing this next year i was going to do it this year but i still had an old style MOT certificate. it would make it so much easier for me

My tax runs out the end of this month. Just a quick query - They would know it runs out and date it for the correct start and end if I ordered it now yeah? I may as well get it out of the way while I've got money! :)

Enfield can you get a tax rebate by declaring SORN online? or do you have to go to the post office for that?

Tom.

No idea, but I'd guess that's a post office job.

I declared my SORN the day before the tax ran out.

Nope but I will do for my next disc.

I avoid the Post Office and its queue of old scrotes saying "This queues dispicable, its disgraceful, its diabolical, its ridiculous........" then following it up with the classic "I could do all this at the bank but I don't like to"

Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

My tax holder has come unstuck now it just lies on the floor in the passenger footwell.

As far as I'm concerned I've paid for it they should be able to check it up on their records anyway. I think there is a grace period, but as long as I know I'm legal I'm quite nonchalant about it. I'm not saying this is the right thing to do, it's just me ;)
