Hi all, a serious question here. The light bulb in my room just popped, so I switched it off, took it out and got a new one. Both are bayonet type bulbs. Now when I did take it out, it was a bit of a struggle, and the 2 contacts on either side broke off.

Now I'm having a problem fitting the new one in. It pushes in the slit, but it won't then turn.

Here's some pics:

I think it must be because the inner white plastic thing has to spring back into position so that I can then slot the bulb in and turn it into position? If that's the case, I don't know how I could move it?

You have answered your own question, it is because of.the plastic bit, get a small screw driver and try to move it, make.sure there is no power going to it first of course.

these are rare now, havent seen one in ages, you need to seat the bulb and rotate the copper outer to lock the bulb in place, tricky, it needs two peeps really

I'd just replace the fitting. That one has obviously overheated over the years and the plastic bits are likely to fail totally at some stage.

Replacement fittings are cheap and easy to fit - last time I checked, at least ;)

I done it. I wasn't able to move the plastic bit at all. But upon further inspection, the whole thing is able to be dismantled even further, and I was able to separate the metal and plastic bit. Then I screw them all back in all lined up, and now my lightbulb is able to slot in and turn fine.

Thanks all.
