I just upgraded my mrs' phone iOS version, and one of the questions when it re-set up was "back up to iCould or Back up to my computer"
She didn't have iCloud at all mentioned on her phone before the upgrade (4.something to 6.1), and I chose iCloud - it is taking AGES. Do you think it's trying to upload all her photos/videos to the apple servers?!?!
