just returned from occupylsx

In fantasy land, it only takes five minutes to build fifty houses and you can be self-employed with a boss. Excellent.

Yea, I'd get a refund on that dictionary.

Explain to me why you cant be self employed yet have a boss who delegates what jobs you should be doing ? if im going to put 2 rsjs in my boss tells me first where they go and then pays me directly when there done therefore self employed.

I'm having work to my house done and it's been a nightmare getting hold of trades people, they are all so busy trying to get everyone's kitchens, bathrooms etc done by Christmas. No way would you have this time of year off!

By self-employed, RadoX obviously means that he works cash in hand and sans contract, for a guy that has no further work for him until next year.

Behave! You should see what these unwashed dole scroungers have done to both St Paul's and Finsbury Square. It's absolutely disgusting! Riot police should have been as heavy handed as possible so these people know that next time they should think twice before protesting (we still don't know what they are protesting about but as long as they have a nice time it's fine, right?).

They inconvenience people who earn an honest living all because of bankers who supposedly ruined the world.

I'm not saying I necessary agree with what they are protesting for, or some of their actions, but, to be honest, stereo typing isn't on and you guys really have ruined the opportunity to ask some serious question about what they were doing and why to a guy who has been there and experienced it. Some times, you guys are too judgemental. But then again, I am a little on the hippy side

The last house we built took 4 months fully finished ready to move into. 4 bedroom stone house. would have took about 3 if we wasn't waiting for 3 weeks to get the ground piled.

Ah! You that kind of self-employed.....the sort that gets their face on Rogue Traders.....;)

haha i know some hippies who could sort your anger problems out with a small square of paper. You should go see them.

Funnily enough i was just wondering about how much of a correlation there was between a person's political views and if they have taken cannabis or not :p;)

DID YOU PORK ANY HIPPY BIRDS?

^^^^^

This :D

I've taken a look around the place and I was mostly disappointed as there is a severe lack of fit hippie chicks - I did spot one semi-OK looking girl in some sort of Buddhist/meditation tend but she appeared to be talking to some teenage boy at the time so I didn't want to interrupt.

I've walked past the place every other lunchtime as I work nearby - also went to one of their evening meetings. Not that I'm a supporter or protester but was a bit curious - sadly it seems that, although there are well meaning folk there, there are a high % of utter ***** present.

Several hobos appear to be on site - including some guy in an NBC suit and a rather odd looking bloke with a big dog and two crutches. Lots of the usual left wingers who'll show up at any protest are obviously there. Couple of Pashtun (I think) guys - older one playing bongos, younger one playing a didgeridoo - I don't know if the older one sexually abuses the younger one (they're a bit like greek people in that respect) but they're not very talented musically. There are also a few people with Guy Fawkes masks...

You do odd jobs for cash in hand. Not many it would seem given your 5 weeks of irritating everyone in Asia over the Summer and then a week with the anti-everything brigade and no further work until next year...

Thats not quite the same as running your own business.

I realise by linking to another Guardian article I'll probably get written off as some kind of loon and that therefore any opinion I hold is automatically invalid, but I found it quite interesting: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/nov/07/one-per-cent-wealth-destroyers

A couple of noteworthy excerpts

Between 1947 and 1979, productivity in the US rose by 119%, while the income of the bottom fifth of the population rose by 122%. But from 1979 to 2009, productivity rose by 80%, while the income of the bottom fifth fell by 4%. In roughly the same period, the income of the top 1% rose by 270%.
In the UK, the money earned by the poorest tenth fell by 12% between 1999 and 2009, while the money made by the richest 10th rose by 37%. The Gini coefficient, which measures income inequality, climbed in this country from 26 in 1979 to 40 in 2009.
I doesn't seem that the point of the protests is that people just blindly want more money, everyone is working harder but the benefits of that work aren't being proportionately shared. If you read the beginning of the article one of the main thrusts is that economic systems are not working sustainably. Anyone working in a corporation must have noticed the obsession with quarterly results and share prices, often over and above long term investments and results.
