I bought an old banger about six months ago to use for a short while and the mot test and tax have just run out (taxed to the end of March, mot test April 20th), so I got a company out to collect and scrap it (I got £120 cash :))

The garage I bought the car from said that there was a problem with the v5 - the previous owner who had px'd the car filled out the wrong section, but the garage would resolve the issue.

I still have not received a log book. I've texted/called the garage a few times, but they don't seem bothered. I haven't got the time or inkling to do any more chasing.

Should I just not bother? The car isn't registered in my name - could there be any come back? Surely someone (other than me) has got a tax renewal letter three weeks ago

Many thanks :)

You're raising this now after a year?! Presumably you at least have the "new keeper" section? If so, then you should be able to resolve this through the DVLA, but I think there's a standard charge of about £20.

Just because you have not received a log book doesn't mean that the DVLA don't have you down as the registered keeper. They may of mistyped your address or replacement V5c lost in the post.

Chances are you're not the registered keeper but I'd still call the DVLA.

Yes - I have the new keeper section, but I'll be buggered if I'm paying £20. I bought the car for £300, so wasn't really fussed about having the v5 straight away. I taxed it 6 months ago using the new keeper supplement.

I have had no tax renewal/sorn letter, and the tax has just run out. The garage don't seem to be very helpful, and as I see it - I don't have a problem as the car isn't registered to me

Quink :)

The fee for a replacement V5c is £25 but you don't have to pay if you have the new keeper supplement. I think the form is V62, I filled one in recently.
