And I really dont know what to expect back...

Been working here for a few months now, and i've just applied to join West Mids police staff as an operations room controller.. similar to what im doing now, but a lot more in-depth, and doesnt just deal with one or two things so i've sent them my application, as I meet the job description qualifications an experience wise, and hopefully ill hear something back soon... i've always been intrigued by this sorta thing, although i've only been here since november last year, it may just count for something if this materialises into a possibility!

Anyone else done anything similar?

If you have the required experience I would say you have a good chance, this is normally the area that lets a lot of people down.

Hello mate, I've been working as a Police dispatcher for nearly a year and call handled (publics and 999 calls) for about a year before that....and still have to call handle every so often. I'm guessing that is the same job with a different title, if you've got any questions I'll try my best to help.
With regards to the application, if you have ever applied for a job within the public sector you will know all about the joys of 'competency based interviews' etc! If not, there has been numerous threads about them over the last few years and I'm sure there are a fair few members here who can help you alongside myself!

Edit:

PS....what job do you do now if you don't mind me asking?

Sent you an email Jonny :)

I've also decided to print off an application to become a PCSO, I always seem to have lots of time on my hands, so I might just spend it doing this :)

I am also working in a police control room.

Feel free to contact me if you need any advice/pointers etc.

I can't imagine why anybody would want to be a PCSO. All the disadvantages of police work: ghastly shifts, out in all weathers, dealing with scumbags and general yobbery on a daily basis with none of the perks.

PCSOs don't get to drive quick and make lots of noise (spend most of their time on foot patrol), they don't get to arrest people, and aren't likely to get away with the ever popular "giving a drunken chav a good dose of shoe in the left ear."

I am at work - very limited as to what we are allowed to do online and IM is certainly not possible from here. I can't even check my Hotmail account from here!

At work myself, what force you on? I might have spoken to you, I work for GRG/RMSL if that means anything :p

Herts.

Really unbusy now on the bit I am looking after.

Will be bailing out early this morning and then have my long weekend off! :)

Same, out here at 7, going to alton towers later tho, so im not gonna be doing a lot of sleeping...

Blooming typical!

Just because I said I was unbusy some idiots have bent 2 parked vehicles by driving into them - now having to actually do some work!

Frankly this is an outrage - the council tax payers who pay my salary should not expect me to actually earn it!
