Yeah there is definitely a time where the normal rules do apply but getting out and going mad is a great way of seeing things differently and pushing boundaries.

I used to hate it at college when I would take a pic that would mean a lot to me, and my photography teacher would say "the main object is too far to the left, and the horizon is at the wrong angle...you get D!" :mad:

I suppose thats understandable though. You're on a photography course to increase your skills and he's only doing what we would do here if someone asked for comments / critique :) Its a tough call sometimes. People post pictures here and I often post some comments to help them take better pictures and yet they could simply be posting pictures they really like and wanting to share that with others. As you say pictures can mean a lot to the photographer but that may not come across to the viewer which in turn can make the viewers comments seem harsh.
