Hi guys,

Just signed up to O2, have been with sky BB max ever since it started (i think 2006). Have not had a single problem with it - the service has been rock solid and truly unlimited. But they are asking for £15 a month or i take their sky talk package - something i cant do as im tied to the current provider for 12 months.

So i signed up up to O2 LLU, £100 cashback and the first 3 months free - basically free internet for a year :D - a no brainer

So what are your experiences with O2 LLU? I use newsgroups quite regularly - do they throttle or has anybody that uses them (newsgroups) ever recieved a letter about their usage?

When i was at uni - i had used Be for a year - and it was rock solid too with no shaping - i suspect O2 operate in the same manner?

Now just need my MAC code.....

For me O2 LLU is trouble free and always has been,

I use the router provided by them (O2 Wireless Box II) and have no issues with wireless or stability.

I do my fair share of gaming if it be on the 360 or PC and have never had any issues with a stable 30ms ping.

To answer your question about newsgroups, I am signed upto Astraweb and get full speed everytime I use it and I am connected to their SSL server.

So a big thumbs up from me, I signed up in Feb when they were doing £75 cashback and 3 months free and thought that was a cracking deal!

As for O2 Access (Use BT Equipment, not LLU) its supposed to be awful so I wouldnt recommend that.

Thats good to hear mate - im on astraweb too, great service and runs full whack on sky - so i expect the same on O2 too! Also play ps3 online and 360 ocassionally - so pings should be good....

Is the O2 wireless box a thomson? IIRC when i had Be it was a thomson box - didnt like it much to be honest, i preferred the netgear interface. Not that it bothers me much - its about time i got a new router - this DG834G has been running rock solid for 3 years!

I am using the O2 Wireless Box II and yes its basically a branded thompson router.

I was using a Netgear DG834GT until recently but had a lot of problems with it just not working well with the O2 network so cracked out the O2 router and havent had any problems since.

Basically with the Netgear DG834GT my internet would go dead (something to do with Lease Time Renewal) and the only way to get it back online was to reboot it. Now when this was happening daily and after several different firmwares I gave up and opted for the hassle free O2 router.

I agree the internet is a bit clunky when you compare it to the Netgear one that I have also used for years but once its setup you never need to go in there again :)

Gave my MAC code a few hours ago - everything seems to be running smoothly - just hope o2 internet does!

What packages are you guys on?

I am currently with "Be" but have an iPhone o2 contract so thinking they may do me a better deal? Also whats the o2 routers like performance/wireless signal wise?

Thanks

Be is owned by O2 and from my research earlier this year, they're both considered amongst the best ISPs in the country (good speeds and uptime, no throttling/shaping or port blocking).

The only differences between the two AFAIK is that the packages are slightly different (for example, a static IP address is voluntary with O2's premium package but not with Be's according to their websites) and they have slightly different contention ratios. O2 is cheaper if you already have an O2 phone package though so they're a great choice.

They also use ADSL2+ even if you get the 8Mbps package, which means you're likely to be able to get 8Mbps speeds further away from the exchange than with ADSL (for example, where I live now we used to get around 3Mbps maximum with ADSL but we can get up to 10Mbps with Be's ADSL2+ so we get the full 8Mbps we pay for).

Hi there

Sorry yes I was aware of the Be - O2 relationship, I'll give them a call and see what they can offer me to move over

Where are people getting these free 3 months and cashback offers from?

Just called O2 and the Prem packages is £9.79 + £4 (static IP) I'm currently paying £12 with "Be" for their Unlimited package with a free static IP

3 months free ended on the 30th of November i think.

Raging that i forgot about the cashback. Signed up my parents friends for them on my computer, completely forgot i could have got at least £50 cashback. Rage!

They were also doing the 3 months free for existing customers too. My contract came to an end and a week before it, I was called up and offered the 3 months free if I signed back up with them again. Was on a package that has since been updated so my monthly bill also was reduced to £14.99 from £19.99, still on the same speed ( Up to 20mb ).

I have nothing but praise for O2 LLU. Apart from a few outages that have affected pretty much the entire network I have had no issues at all with them. Speeds are rapid ( I get between 16mb-18mb d/l ) and connection very solid indeed.

I'm quite a heavy user and I've never been throttled and have downloaded over 30 Gb per month on more than one occasion and haven't heard a peep out of them. ;)

I replaced my BeBox with a Netgear DG834G because one of my games couldn't connect properly and the BeBox wouldn't let me use DMZ (Be stated that they disabled this option on the routers purposefully). Not sure if O2 do the same thing but might be something to watch out for.

What's their hardware like?

I haven't had any hassle with the supplied Wireless Box II. It's a Speedtouch 585 and it does what it says on the tin. Can't see the point of swapping it over for another router as I doubt I would see any worthwhile performance increase.

They do tend to get a bit hot through use ( like any router I suppose ) so rather than have it sat flat, I have mine in it's wee cradle sat upright to allow for better air circulation.

Got a 585 (I think) with Be and the wireless signal saw pants poor all over the house other than the front bedroom which is where the master socket is :D

Thanks for the info though ;)

Hmmm, could be down to individual circumstances, distances, thickness of walls etc?.

I get a pretty good wireless signal all over my house. I also get a great signal in the back garden, even up on the decking at the very back of the garden a reasonable distance away from the router which is in a spare bedroom at the front of the house. So I canny complain really. :D

Solid internet connection and great speeds - I never lag where as all my friends do every now and then. Im moving in janurary and my contract is up, time to sign up for the £100 cashback me thinks!
