How screwed am I?

Unplugged it after a few seconds of staring in disbelief. All leds stayed on which is hopefully a good sign...

Tipped it upside down to let it drain and shook it out. Took all keys off and wiped the switches with a damp microfiber cloth while kb was upside down to try and dilute any sugary coffee trapped in the top of the switch. Then left it upside down on some tissue with rice underneath. Anything else I should do before it dries?

Not sure whether I should remove the case and void the warranty to make sure the inside is clean? I guess I have already voided the warranty by spilling on it?

As you say the warranty is now void so taking apart cant effect that.
I would strip it down as far as you can and rinse with distilled water then allow to thoroughly dry before reassembly.

Thanks, will try the distilled water as a last resort.

So spilling does void the warranty then? So if I dry it out and it works fine, but a few months later an led burns out it would still be void because of the spill?

Gah, I'm such an idiot, just put the drink there for a few seconds and managed to knock it over with my headphone lead :(.

Fraid so, below taken from their website :-

http://www.duckychannel.com.tw/en/Warranty.html

Excluded from warranty cover are: faults resulting from lack of maintenance, inadequate servicing, misuse, neglect, accidental damage, liquid spills, the effects of heat or fire, vandalism, theft, environmental conditions, dirt, dust, rodents or insects; cosmetic or superficial damage to casings after purchase; damage caused by power surges or other causes covered by normal contents insurance.

The actual phrasing states that the warranty doesn't cover damage as a result of the situations in that list, not that if one should occur, your warranty is gone.

I would advise using Isopropyl Alcohol instead on water distilled or not.

Its sold for cleaning PCB's and electrical components specifically

Break the keyboard down as much as possible and give it a good clean!

Isopropyl Alcohol dries quickly and is a much more effective solvent than water for removing any residue. Can be bought fairly cheap on the high street in a shop that sells an assortment of electrical gubbins

Fingers crossed

Managed to kill 3 keys on my k65 when I spilt coke all over it no amount of cleaning fixed it devastated.

Thanks, crossing my fingers as well! Only a couple of the switches feel a bit sticky, but they might wear in after a bit of use. I'll leave it another day to dry and then test it .

Got a feeling I might need to open it though as the milk in the coffee might smell.

Good shout.

So you are advocating not taking it apart and cleaning it then, just in case something else goes wrong with it in the future that will be covered by the warranty ?

Nah, if they spot any signs of liquid they'll just say that it the most likely cause of any other problems, your warranty is hosed, if you wanted to try to remove all traces of any spillage you would have to completely strip it down and then your chances of causing more damage or at least something they'll again spot on a warranty claim as having been tampered with, rise

I would just assume your warranty is gone, take some basic steps to try to get it working but I don't think there's any way you are going to be able to repair it to a point they won't notice if you send it off for a warranty claim

That is quite a lot of things to be excluded from warranty cover :(.

The last bit "other causes covered by normal contents insurance." gets me thinking if you have broken it you could claim on your household insurance if you have accidental damage cover?

on a more serious note. if you managed to unplug it fast enough you could remove the PCB and clean it with isopropynol

I spilt some coke on my MK 80 led's don't work but the keys are fine after a decent clean and leaving it to dry.

Almost 100% certain your warranty would be void, ducky take everything apart and have provided us photos of returns before so we can see why they've rejected it. Water damage is so easy to spot on a pcb if it doesn't get cleaned up.

Thanks, i'll open it up then and make sure the pcb is clean.

It seems to have dried out now and i've washed all the key caps and put them back on, but i'm to scared to try it :( :p.

i would open it first

chances are if you turned it off fast enough moisture in their didn't damage anything but if you turn it on and their is moisture on the contacts it could be all over.

if it's dried off a bit it shoudl be easy to see where you need to clean

I think I have got lucky as the keys and leds seem to be all working fine . If anything the M and Fn key is a little stiff, so I might just try dousing the stitch in warm water using the straw method if it doesn't wear in after a few days.

Thanks for the advice. I'm quite surprised it survived having half a cup of hot coffee poured into it, thought it was a gonner when I was pouring it out of the kb into the sink. If its still working in a few days I might even treat it to a Ducky leather wrist rest :D.
