I tried kickboxing last night for the first time. I have been meaning to try it for a few years now and finally went along for a free trial.

The warmup was pretty intense and ongoing, but much to my own surprise I lasted until the end of the session. Very tired afterwards, but I want to keep going back. I'll have to pay £40 a month, but that gives me full access to the centre's evening classes, which are on every night (except perhaps Tuesdays which are for the Pros). If you go twice a week then I feel it pays for itself.

I know how important it is to keep my guard up etc. and I know about the concussive risks if you aren't careful. I do not intend to compete, just to use it to keep fit. I also swim once a week (most weekends) so that should also help.

So, any advice? :)

Thanks for the replies guys, only just remembered about this thread.

Concussive risk? I'd assume that if training you're not trying to ko your partner and focusing more on technique and fitness. If someone is trying to hurt you find a different partner.

Don't worry, I have no intention of hurting or being hurt by any sparring partners. I'm not even sparring yet.
