Just started playing CoH..... its epic

I picked up the CoH pack on a deal several months ago and never touched it untill last night.

I am only on the first missions in the vanilla version just started the carantene mission and so far I must say I am really impressed with the game play. Unlike a lot of RTS games I have played its not just about maxing population and zerging the enemy you can actually use tactics and use squad selection wisely e.g correct deployment of mortar units to smash up a house with garrisoned units in.

Is there an online mode also where you can play against real life people too as that would be fricking awesome also I think

There most certainly is. And it is very good.

Expect a huge learning curve as the game is quite mature, but don't let that put you off. Head over to gamereplays.org if you want to get competitive and learn the strats.

It also remains one of the most challenging, draining, and sheer daunting games I've ever played.

Owned it for a while now, but still barely broken into the meat of the (admittedly MASSIVE) campaign. I look at it in my Steam library occasionally, but just never feel like I have the mental fortitude to jump in at that particular time as I know the punishment that awaits.

Brilliant, brilliant game.

Then when you get bored of it and the expansions go get all the mods etc

Then come back and tell us again how epic it is

great game, coming up on 200hours online play.

the russian front mod is ok but is pretty hard to get used to, they take the whole stalingrad thing too far, u get a squad of 6 with only 3 rifles.

theres a new mod to look out for by blacksand studios. usa v chinese looks good

I started playing this again with a mate, we like to just play against the computer though. I started to call him **** going up against two normals i felt like i was on my own half the time! Game finished with us just quitting as i was getting pretty frustrated! stats really didnt look to good for him, mine was 125 kills about 45 losses, he had 19 kills but dont remember his losses... i think that shows who was holding them back. Really felt like i was playing against them solo trying to defend to much my forces just ended up being spread out and cut off and help never seemed to arrive.

the ultimate test is a 4v4 agaisnt expert mode comps, they get double the resources and thair tactics are solid

love it. I've been evangelising this game for time now.

it is undoubtably genius, frustrating, daunting smash your head against the wall awesome.

i play 2v2 online with my teammate. we've totally fallen out over games tactics etc. but always come back for more!

I picked it up a few years ago, and began to play the campaign, but got stuck.

I picked it up (again), along with Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor in the Steam sales either earlier this year or late last year, and have decided to clear my progress in all the campaigns and start again.

I'm up to Hill 192 on the original campaign.

It is brilliant. Totally awesome game. Love playing Vire River Valley on 2 vs 2 MP and blowing the bridges, holding them to the bottleneck in the middle.

Picked this up when it was released way back when in 2006 i think it was. Played it and loved it but I was an impatient 16 year old back then and never got very far. Going to reinstall and go through the campaign again now after reading this thread

it's one of the best games i've ever played tbh. I had never really been interested in WW2 prior to this game. then i played the first beach landing level, trying to get your squad of guys to the top of the beach - having them all die then getting another one, having all but one survive so grabbing another - and so on. then you remember that it's based on real life events...

from playing that game i've become a bit obessesed with WW2 - so be careful

Same, the system in company of heroes online was nice and fresh was great they bought the fixes from CoH online to normal company of heroes.

Think i have over 400 hours under my belt on Company of heroes and various expansions now. Been playing it since it first came out pretty much till today and i still suck

Either way its one of the best rts's i have ever played

CoH is the top RTS game for me, I got sucked into ages ago and i love. Not playing as much as i used to.

What Mods can people recommend? Not tried any out yet, and with the ages of the game i imagine there are a lot?
