Had my beard for over 10 years, and when i needed a quick shave always used bic or gillet disposable's.

But i remember on here a thread with good links to places i can get a 'proper' shaver - Double edge'd type razor so i can get a decent shave without the who red marks on my face.

So, anyone got any good links for good shavers?

I personally recommend any shaving cream/aftershave balm by Truefitt and Hill. The difference it made to the quality of my skin and comfort of my shave compared to generic foam from a tin was night and day. I've tried Geo F Trumpers creams too, but they were useless for me :/.

Look for a Merkur razor too.

I use:

gillette fusion power
King of Shaves (gel)
Nivea facial scrub (gel).

It stops me getting bumps that way, or I get tons of ingrowing hair / bumpy skin.

Cheers for the link, will see what i can find around here where i live for the next few days.

BTW - odd question, can you carry these razors on a plane with hand luggage? Just tried a disposable razor, feels like i have ripped my skin apart, so the sooner i get something better, well, the better!

I've been using a Merkur for only a month with Proraso shaving cream and a brush. Much closer shave than my Mach 3 Turbo(remap) and the blades are much better value than the Bank of Gillette.

If you get a Merkur type razor the selection of blades at The Gentlemens Shop isn't the best.

If you look at http://connaughtshaving.com/razorblades.html there are loads and if you email them then they'll put together a custom sample pack of ones to try.

Blades can be a very personal choice, but the main brands people tend to recommend are :-

  • Derby & Red Personna (good budget blades)
  • Feathers (very sharp but expensive)
  • Gillette 7 o'clock Yellow (best of both, imho!)

I use some silly gillette that vibrates with overpriced blades. The blades i use on my face last quite a while, my balls/sack blade starts getting blunt after about 3 shaves.

I use a Wilkinson's Sword 3 blade diamond protector 3d thing, its pretty heavy, which I like.

Sampled a Gillette Mach 3 a while ago when I had forgotten to bring my razor, and it was like using my Wilkinson's sword when it's blunt.

Wilkinson Sword Quattro (I think, can't remember).

Bought a King of Shaves Azor razor while in the UK last week and threw it away, it was useless.

I was thinking about getting my Dad a Merkur razor for Christmas, there are so many different ones ranging from £25-50, is there one in particular to go for?
