"Just stop oil"

I have no problem with peaceful protest but if your protest disrupts people's lives then it is no longer a peaceful protest.

The question for me is how much disruption is acceptable before that protest crosses the line from peaceful to unacceptable protest.

I bet none work as you need, oil or product from oil to travel to work
Why would it matter if they did? They are against new drilling licenses being granted, not the eradication of all oil. Only takes a minute to educate yourself.

I’m totally fine with them lobbing cake at wax works to highlight their cause. Not harming anyone or disrupting anything.

it's criminal damage and owned by someone. would you be ok with them petrol bombing your home (petrol probably an unlikely choice) - so long as it was empty of course.!

personally I am not an appreciator of fine art but I am offended by criminal damage and respect the whilst to me it's massively overpriced mediocre pictures, to others they are priceless

They threw some cake at a statue… it’s hardly comparable with firebombing a private home. (Edit, removed inappropriate accusation)

Sometimes direct action is needed, and throwing cake at a wax work seems pretty innocuous to me in the grand scheme of things. Or maybe, the government who accept theirs a climate emergency shouldn’t do things that make it worse… it’s them you should be angry at, not getting angry because a waxwork of the king has some choccy icing on his hat.

they threw tomato soup and potato at priceless works of art worth FAR more than your home. as for calling me drunk..... don't be a dick

I’m talking about cake and waxworks.

Though, weren’t the paintings they targeted protected by screens? I’m not 100% sure on that!

Apologies for calling you drunk, I realise that can be a wildly inappropriate slur. So sorry!

Did you miss the bit where priceless works of art are stored behind glass?

Literally a victimless crime upsetting no-one. Much better than blocking traffic.

last time I read it (a few hrs ago) it was still unknown whether the potato one was behind glass or not or what damage has been caused. that was on BBC iirc. but either way it's still out of order.imo. you want to justify it fine but I bet if you owned it you would not be defending it.

(not defending blocking traffic either btw)

If I owned a priceless painting I donated to fiddle tax with the expectation it would be hung Infront of the public; more fool me tbh.

Sky news confirmed it was behind glass.
Sounds to me like they are being pretty reasonable in their protest and picking their targets well…

“The Barberini Museum said that because it was enclosed in glass, the activists did not cause any damage.”

It’s well known that gluing yourself to something stops global energy companies from drilling for oil. Come on guys.
Publicity.

"Just stop oil" is just dumb.. most of modern life depends on plastic. Even if oil was largely stopped, then it would need to be replaced by other resources in large quantities. They really haven't thought it through.
