Hi there, I have just switched from talk talk to BT in the middle of the British County Side.
With both providers he internet is slow. Which I can understand, however with BT my ping will sometimes go crazy high (cs:go has measured it as high as 4000ms).

Is there a way that I can fix this?
Would the old router help out maybe? I have heard that the new BT routers do some kind of find the fastest path thing, which I don't seem to be able to disable.

Because of this I would quite like to be able to try my old router out but I do not know the BT connection details.. If anyone does then please do let me know.

Thanks,
Sam

will do, I am currently away but if you will still be around in a week or so I would appreciate your help :)

It can take a week or two for your line to train.

Leave the router plugged in and test again in a week's time using a network cable.

As it is essentially a new BT (Wholesale) line, you will start on fastpath.

If the line is erroring a lot or disconnecting DLM will turn on interleaving. If that doesn't help the target SNR will be raised from 6dB up to 9dB, up to 12dB, up to 15dB, until the line stops disconnecting and the errors are low. Each 3dB increase in SNR will reduce the sync speed, as will having interleaving enabled.

I suspect your line is erroring a lot leading to packet loss. This should resolve itself very quickly.

Is this connected to a line filter or a filtered telephone faceplate?

Have you tried the test socket?

IS this running off an extension cable to the phone socket?

Yes, I have tried all this and I have tried the quite line test as well, could not hear anything.

my noise levels:

00:35:18, 02 Aug. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=4448Kbps, Up Rate=448Kbps; SNR Margin Down=12.0dB, Up=26.0dB

EDIT: Sorry I haven't got any recently, I am currently away on holiday but will be back on Monday, so I will retry the noise levels check.
