Howzit guys,

I have a 2.5" Laptop drive which has a Linux partition on it and some data. If I connect it to a Windows based system 0 it won't show up in My Computer but it should show up in device manager, correct? (I am connecting it via USB external)

Thanks. :)

Yes. The actual hard drive device will be recognised, but Windows lacks driver support for Linux filesystems like ext2/ext3, so it wont show up in My Computer.

If the partition is intact, i like Explore2fs to browse the drive.

Well it seems the drive may be dead then. :(

It won't show up in Disk Managment at all - but aother drive I have tried works fine (This is a NTFS based drive though)

Thanks :)

If it's usb, make sure you've got enough power going to it

Most usb laptop drive caddies will have two sources of power, the usb and an extra cable (not always needed)

Front USB ports tend to have less power in them, and some drives need more power than others to spin up properly

^Something to note..

Does it show up in the Bios? Or you could boot to a linux live cd and check for the drive?

If you do managed to get Windows to see the drive it will probably prompt you to say it isn't formatted. Obviously make sure you don't.
