I just spent around 3 hours on; Allods Online, Runes of Magic and Earth Eternal. I was expecting them to be fun... Possibly one of the most boring experiences I have had in a long time. It is basically, attack, wait for a long time, attack again, wait for another long time. Loot, repeat several hundred times, gain some EXP. Buy some stuff repeat, repeat... Am I missing something here? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love RPG games but these three MMO's just bored me, very quickly.

That's the problem right there, try some decent MMO's like WoW, Lotro, Eve, Guild Wars etc :). There's been quite a few threads recently on 'spec me an mmo' so plenty of advice around.

Not played those personally... but it's the community which makes an MMO a lot of the time.

WOW also for example has a lot of fun exploration, especially the first time you level a character. When I first flew over a few areas for the first time (Searing Gorge comes to mind) I was in awe. I remember stepping through the Dark Portal, seeing the guards try and hold back the Burning Legion and think... "damn."

Firstly, 3 mmos in 3 hours. No mmo is going to give you a full taste of what makes them special in only 1 hour of play.

Secondly, try moving away from the free mmos and try some of the pay mmos, they are generally far superior in content and gameplay than the free ones imo.

Free MMOs generally suck (although LOTRO will be free-to-play soon and that is suppose to be pretty good).

Try WoW. Many people will criticise it but it has the largest player-base for a reason.

Lotro is pretty good, it will be free to play (up to a point anyway , more like an extended demo really) but it started as a p2p and has those values. The true f2p games were f2p from the start and so designed with those limitations and values at their core. (and hence suck as mmos imo :))

Try the US version of Dungeons and Dragons Online, very different from the usual attack / wait / repeat model. Free to play too, for quite a while before you start having to shelve out cash.
