Helloooo all :D

I just went to my local large PC store and tried to buy a MacBook any model other than the cheapest one and theu had none!!

It was a 30day lead time on them all appart from the cheapest macbook which they could have for wednesday!

I am so gutted! They didn't have any in their other stores either!!!

I'm at a loss of what to do now! Do I search the net for one or do I bite the bullet and buy one from apple and wait forever?

Damn apple!!

They still got my money as I ended up buying a Pink 4gb new nano for the mrs!

If I did order from apple would they take payment now or when they ship it?

Cheers!

A dissapointed BigMac :(

Unfortunately buying from Apple Online = Pay Now and wait till it reaches you :(

There usually a 3 day add on to the waiting time for a build to order macBook and right now, there's a 5 days wait for all 3 basic models, so if you order online from Apple (UK) - 5 + 3 = 8 days before it is delivered and give it about 5 working days to reach your doorstep = so approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

I had to wait 2.5 weeks for mine I bought back in August.

Thanx for the quick reply :)

That doesn't sound too bad I thought it was longer than that.

I read its best to upgrade the ram yourself as apple does seem to want a lot for it!!

Hmm ..... what to do :)

personally i love apple store online... it does take a while to get to you but ive never had any problems and you know your getting the latest stock straight out of the factories.

p.s. BUY IT - shiny new apple hardware is lovvvvvely

I wanted the cheapest model, so I could upgrade the RAM and hard drive myself - not bothered about the small increase in cpu speed nor lack of DVD burner.

Mine arrived in under 24 hours, and I have already bought 2Gb of RAM for £90.00 (increased in the past week or so).

I'll probably get a bigger hard drive next month.

Well I just got off the phone from apple and I have ordered the core duo 2ghz model with 1gb of ram on the HE Disscount for £831!!!!

Wahooooooooooooo!

Just need to sort out paying for it now .... ;) :p

Woot! That's what I got last month, very resonably priced isn't it? (I love HE discount)

Hope it'll arrive ASAP and you enjoying opening it - it was a very nice experience.

Heehee!!!

Yea I almost paid £960 for it and then thought wooooooooooo what about HE Disscount and rang them up :D Best thing I have done!!

I bet it is fun opening her up!! I can't wait to get it :D :D :D :D

Just a question I should have probably asked, how long is the battery life?

You got on well with yours Dr?

YAY!

Ordered mine also :)

Stock Macbook with 1Gb RAM, 80Gb Hard Drive, Applecare and Second Skin Case £816 :D

Got my main home PC for burning DVDs and the 1.83Ghz vs 2Ghz is very small especially when you consider that when it runs on battery they'll both get throttled to about 1Ghz under certain power saving settings anyway :p

Battery life is around about 4-5 hours for light usage, 3-4 hours for average usage and for heavy usage about 2-3 hours :)

For my 24" iMac and my friends 20", they didnt take payment until the item shipped. Talking to the chap on the phone he said this was the case. Both the items were BTO.

So far, battery life is about 3 to 4 hours with a mix of net, word processor and itunes running, medium usage? Also on full charge, watching a 1.5hr .avi and about 30mins worth of podcasts with the battery indicator showing an hour to spare.

Havent tried gaming on battery - I'm guessing 2 hours, will have a try out today when my mate come around for some UT LAN.

Edit: My credit card showed the payment a couple of days after ordering - because my bank screwed up on authorising the payment, but definitely taken before shipping, thus I assume they take upon ordering, or at least within a 48hr period.

I doubt there is a large difference in performance between the 1.8 and 2ghz but a superdrive is a must for me :D

I will have a look tonight to see if payment has come out yet :)

BeatMaster whats the expected delivery date for yours?

Those battery figures sound looooooooooovely!!! :D Should mean I can take it to work and not need the charger!

Does the macbook have a hibernate option like windows laptops? I think its a much better idea than shutting down all the time.

So your pretty happy with yours the dr? You should use the "Trust me im a doctor" line :p

Expected Despatch - 2nd October

Expected Delivery 11th October

You can hibernate, but it's considered a hack since it only goes into safe sleep when your battery runs out in normal sleep mode. You can find the guide here

Can't wait :D

I'm very happy with mine.

Quality of this machine is top, the screen is brilliant - don't know why some people have issues with glossy screen. I use it for uni work, net, music, movies and syn with my w800i calendar on OSX. I do use Bootcamp and boot into windows for gaming - so far, last gen games runs relatively well and classic games runs best, obviously.

Only just run a lot of UT and Postal2 over LAN - was good, did dropp to about 15FPS from the usual 30FPS to 80FPS when I hosted a big map with 14 morons on Postal2.

Battery lasted just under 2 hours on constant gaming with BT and Airport on. Not too shabby.

I <3 my Macbook.

Got an email from apple today saying estimated build time is 7 bussines days and another 5 days for delivery :(

I would also be careful when upgrading your Ram or Hard drive as Applecare won't cover it if it's an upgrade you've done yourself.

I've paid extra for a 100gig hard drive and going to buy Ram elsewhere as this can be easily swapped out should i need to send the Macbook back.

Think twice about upgrading once you receive your Macbook and then think again before selling off your original Hard Drive/Ram as quite a few Macbooks do end up going back to Apple.

BeatMaster mine are the exact same dates :) I'm right looking forward too it! Just gotta sort everything out to transfer all my things over.

So whats the mac alternative to hibernating then?

I'm glad your happy Dr those battery times seem pretty fantastic to me!! I only game on my xbox 360 so I should get even better times :D

pumaz I wount be upgrading for some time until 160gb laptop hard drives get cheaper then I think I might consider it.

Cheers for all the replys people! Its good to hear other peoples experiances and what not :D
