Right…ive totally messed the thing up and even though i like to think im good with the phone i cant fix this.

I bought a 1.1.1 phone about 4 months ago and jailbroke/unlocked it using jailbreakme.com and AnySIM. I then upgraded to 1.1.2 using the Oktoprep and using iTunes.

I then upgraded to 1.1.3 using the installer.app last week and it has been working just fine. I decided to install a few 3rd party apps today and there was an installer.app update so i installed it and my phone crashed a few times and then went into recovery mode.

I had no option but to plug it in to my Mac and STUPIDLY hit restore which i can only assume has put a fully restored and locked version on 1.1.3 on my phone.

It is now looking for a valid sim and I cant find any way to correct this. Since you seem to be in the know, do you have any clue how to correct this? The phone is currently in recovery mode as i was going to try and downgrade the firmware using http://www.tuaw.com/2008/01/16/downgrading-your-1-1-3-iphone-or-ipod-touch/ but came accress a few problems.

Cheers

Can you not take the firmware backwards but you loose phone functionality because the baseband has changed?

all may not be lost, it depends what bootloader your phone has, its its 4.6 then you have lost all phone functionality until a patch comes out. if however you have 3.9 you maybe OK, try following this guide HERE

Jst reread the first post and Kidloco is correct, if you bought it 4 months ago and was on 1.1.1 it may of been a 3.9 from the usa, in which case you will be fine.

Even if its got 4.6 bootloader you can flash is back i think, aslong as it had 3.9 in the first place.

Thats what i thought. Last time i drink and play with my iPhone!

It came with 1.1.1 im sure, or maybe even 1.0.2 but i upgraded it quickly afterwards.

I need it as a phone otherwise i will need to go buy another one since i moved to Canada and all my other backup phones are at home

I may be wrong but are your sure you are putting it in to the correct restore mode, there are 2!,

quote from another forum

If you are getting "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1).", then you are not correctly following the downgrade guides posted. In order to downgrade your phone from version 1.1.3 to an earlier version (and lose phone capabilities if you have the 4.6 bootloader), you need to make sure you enter the right restore mode. That's right - there's two of them. If you have the "Connect to iTunes" icon on your screen when you try to restore, then you're in the wrong mode and that's why you're getting the error.

In order to downgrade your phone, you need to be able to get to the phone's home screen. In other words you need to be able to boot it up correctly, without hitting the "Connect to iTunes" restore mode. If you keep entering this mode, use iNdependence or iBrickr to get out of that mode and back onto your phone's home screen.

From there, you need to connect your phone your computer and follow these steps CAREFULLY.

1. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the iPhone shuts down.
2. WITHOUT releasing the Home button, release the Sleep/Wake button (the top one).
3. When iTunes displays the message saying it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode AND your screen is still black, let go of the Home button and you're reading to do the Option-Click restore to downgrade to 1.1.1 (or something else).

Problem is iNdependence doesn't work on 1.1.3 so cant get it back to the home screen

It's been tested and is known to work on Intel and PPC Macintosh systems running Mac OS 10.4.10, 10.4.11, and 10.5.1 and with iTunes versions 7.3 - 7.5.

It's also been tested and is known to work with iPhone firmware 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.1.1, and 1.1.2.

It will not work with iPhone firmware 1.1.3

What forums did you get that from? Im going to go have a look around and see if anyone else has had any luck

Yeah im doing that now using Parallels.

Every time i plug the phone in iTunes hijacks the USB connection from Windows. Im gonna uninstall iTunes (cause its an old copy anyway) and then try it.

I dont know what bootloader i have installed. It did have 3.9 i think but im not sure if iTunes may have updates that or not

Ok i have the phone to 1.1.2 jailbroken and can be used as an ipod & wifi browser but is there any way to activate the SIM on baseband 04.03.13 G with firmware version iBoot - 204.2.9?

I tried AnySIM but that doenst work with my baseband. I've read a few other posts and it looks like im stuffed til AnySIM 1.3 comes out

Anyone got the answer?
