lol i know the film is like 10years old but i never watched it in cinema (given the fact i was only 10 and more exiciting stuff could be done)

but i purchased it recently and watched it, and i was really impressed with it. the idea is a very good one, the shakespeare play in modern times, with the olde english language.

however there is a downside to this: you have to give it your fullest attention otherwise you will miss things.

again Di Caprios acting is really good, despite looking like a world class poof he is a brilliant actor. claire danes was also really good in this. no one else really deserves a mention as they were only minor characters and didnt really impact the film. apart from the Tybalt guy.

7/10

Not much of a difference there then. ;)

I'd agree that Baz Lurhman's Romeo + Juliet is pretty good although I don't think that the setting makes an awful lot of difference to the story aside from making it look a bit silly when they start talking in 'olde English'.

I agree. I love this film, although I have to say, the first time I watched it I didn't understand what was going on as I didn't give it my full attention. All of the narrative in the film is taken directly from the play (from what I remember of reading it 8 years ago!), which is why it is still in Shakespearean English. It is rather confusing though to see a modern background but old English.
Of course, there are plenty of modern adaptations of Shakespear plays (eg 10 things I hate about you), so I think taking it back to the roots of the play works in a unique way.

Baz's visual's and soundtrack definitely make the movie. Not many modern day director's could do it to appeal to a modern audience.

Still not watched it all in one sitting but it is superb.
