Acer Nitro 31.5" XZ322QUP to ASRock 27" PG27QFT2A

Colours :)
Text :)
No Smearing :)
No curve :(
Too much space either side of my monitor now :(
New built in speakers vs old ones :(

I really didn't think the curve would be a big deal, but it kinda is even at this size and distance!

Oh well, lesson learned

IPS glow?

Not that I can see, but my setup isn't optimal as I have a bright window above/behind the monitor so glare is kinda always there anyway. Blacks actually look better than the VA from browser/text point of view but probably a combination of clarity and no smear.

Smearing.

I'm on the thing multiple hours a day working and I use dark mode on everything, I find it really distracting.
When I'm not working I game so again the VA just wasn't cutting it. OLED is expensive and text can be hit & miss so I'm left with IPS. I went with a cheap 27" (£125) to see how I get on, wish I'd gone 32" &/or curved UW.

I've given my son the old one and got the 24" 75hz IPS he was using as a 2nd monitor now, they don't line up so maybe I'll go with a cheap arm &/or rethink my life

I've been on IPS for 12+ years and never been bothered by the glow (not sure how badly effected any of the screen I've had were), but have heard very offputting things about VA smearing.
And colours/viewing angles on IPS are really good

OLED are getting cheaper, but for my use case I'm still too scared of burn in (main monitor usually stays static for long periods while watching stuff on the TV as a second screen, cba to have rotating backgrounds or hide taskbar/shortcuts)

edit: personally, hate the idea of a curved screen unless ultrawide!

I've only found 2 VA panels over the years which don't have undesirable smearing though they have non-standard pixel layout so text doesn't look great close up. Personally not into curved monitors at all. I don't generally find IPS glow too much of an issue but it depends a lot monitor to monitor.

Smearing is an unfortunate side effect of most VA panels and is the reason they're kind of being phased out. For dark rooms, OLED is probably the best, since it doesn't have the issue of IPS glow, nor of VA black smearing. However, that's still an entirely different price class, and due to burn-in might not be the best for productivity work. I personally avoided VA panels specifically because of black smearing and VRR flicker (the latter also being present on OLED). Switched from TN to IPS last year, and glow hasn't been bothering me, though I should mention I am in a brightly lit room. Exactly the same as yours - 27" for around the same price. I was upgrading from 24 inches, though, while you went with more of a sidegrade.

I will say that I've never regretted not buying a smaller monitor. With that said, most things you can get used to with an adjustment period. If you can handle the smaller screen for a while, OLED is rapidly getting better and cheaper. In a year or two it will probably be in a much better state, just like how it's in a much better state today than a couple of years ago.

The 34 inch qd oled Alienware under 500 sheets now and would suit all your needs nearly apart from speakers I think

You can set it up in about 10 clicks.
